ME221 Mx5 Na 1995 Wont Start

Long Story Short Drove my Mx5 Into my Garage and parked it.
Done the build with rx8 injectors, TD04, fmic, IAT, ME221, Avcr boost Controller and now the car wont Start there is no spark at the leads.
If I plug in the old ECU to start the car it fires up and cuts out due to the MAF delete which doesnt bother me I know everything in Car is good but whats up with the ECU its brand New ??

aidandj 01-23-2017 12:28 PM

I would contact ME directly. But it sounds like a blown spark driver or something.

Ciaranmx5cork 01-23-2017 12:30 PM

Thanks yeah its odd. Contacted them but very slow to respond sent them on a datalog file and Calibration and they havent been back to me yet need the car running asap so I can finish exhaust mapping and get it on the road again...

SchmoozerJoe 01-23-2017 12:46 PM

Try putting a battery starter on your motor.
Past versions of the ME221 were known to not get a crank signal when the battery voltage was too low.

Ciaranmx5cork 01-23-2017 12:49 PM

Well on the ECU it comes up at 12.1V the battery is about 2 months old and was fully charged before I tried starting it so yeah that should all be good :)

SchmoozerJoe 01-23-2017 01:43 PM

You may want to launch your MEITE software and take a look at the voltage reading the ECU is getting during cranking as well.
Something to check while you wait for Matt to respond to you.

Ciaranmx5cork 01-23-2017 01:45 PM

Okay Ill try that but it starts first turn on original ECU so I dont know whats going on ill try that and see what I get thanks :)

Like aidan said contact ME, I'm assuming you're in the uk because you call it an MX-5. Customer support is supposed to be one of ME's strong points, let us know how those claims stack up

Ciaranmx5cork 01-24-2017 09:37 AM

Im in Ireland but ya contacted matt got the car started simple wire that had to be connected and it fired up :) :) now to stop it from revving up and down uncontrollably :)

Perhaps you could post the solution to help the next person, so they don't have to contact ME?

Had to connect f/p wire from diagnostics to earth to run the fuel pump the Installation videos dont show it Online .

That is a really shitty and not safe fix. The ecu should control the fuel pump. How you have it now the fuel pump will just continuously run when the car is keyed on. If you are in an accident and the motor dies but the pump does not and fuel lines get cut it will just keep pumping fuel. When the ecu controls the fuel pump, power to it is killed when the engine stops.

Jumping the F/P and ground is a great way to temporarily test the fuel pump, but should not be left in that configuration permanently.

Just for a reference when I built my first MS1 10 years ago, it could control the fuel pump perfectly. There is absolutely no reason why a modern day ECU should not be controlling the fuel pump.

Ciaranmx5cork 01-26-2017 05:27 AM

This is what I was told to do by ME I know its very dangerous and can be heard running all the time if you go onto the ME website_support and go to ME221 hardware install guide 8995 it explains it in the manual to do exactly this.

Any other ideas For this ? Want the Car to be safe too it will be my daily.

Braineack 01-26-2017 07:46 AM

its only dangerous if you run into a tree, really.

If your ECU cant activate a fuel pump, it shouldn't be installed in your car. I remember these guys could barely wrap their heads around the DIYPNP and then they go and developed this gem. I honestly feel bad for ME221 and FM221 users.

I got one for one of my customers - for very good price.

It was a bad experience and all I found out is that the product was not ready to sell, many bugs, in the fw, software and labeling...

you obviously dont know how to tune.

elior77 01-26-2017 10:05 AM

Why like this?

All the cars, jeeps and bikes I tuned successfully do not agree with your childish post.

Not nice.

You obviously missed the sarcasm.

On a different note, your last post was back in August of last year. Any updates on the ME221 you tuned since then? Customer switch to something better? Or still fighting with it.

elior77 01-26-2017 10:40 AM

Couldn't tell the sarcasm from here - if there was any.

The ECU had a missing component the support ask me to add...
The software had bugs and unfinished functions.
It cost the customer more time and money then needed.

On the dyno the ecu got totally rested once - good thing I had a tune file saved.

For now he does use it and it is ok... (with beta fw and the missing component added)

:\

I'm interested to see what FM says about the ground issue. If they sell that system and something happens, wouldn't they have some liability? I also can't see them selling something like that since it's unsafe at some level?

Maybe I'm just too optimistic...
