Mental
I though I'd start a new thread about John's car. He's the guy here that has built all of our cars for the last 4 years or so. This will be his daily, weekend toy and might see one or two trackdays a year. He's not a racer, just cruises around the track. The blower and bracket are preproduction Jackson Racing hardware from the upcoming CARB legal kits. The piping and I/C are all one off. ECU is one of Crushers spare MS3x's. As you can see, John likes a tidy engine bay. Don't ask me how he did all of that. This car probably has 1500 hrs into it. The interior shows the same level of one off customness.
Engine is an OEM rebuild with NB1 9.5:1 pistons + forged rods. It is setup to run on pump gas now. We plan to experiment with a flex fuel sensor to control not just fuel and spark but also boost. The WG on the manifold will bleed off excess boost at high rpm when running on pump gas, also controlled by the ECU. This car shares IC, piping and WG setup with Deviate. More pics to come. https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...7270273_o.jpg? |
I like it.
What's the story with the two big vacuum lines going to bulkheads on the firewall? Guessing manifold one is going to the ECU. Is the one off the booster going to a remote mounted vacuum canister? Stock pedal setup? |
Glorious work to be sure. Is he bringing the car out to Laguna this weekend?
At the risk of sounding like I'm on CR, we are definitely going to need interior pics after a lead in like that. Or just more pics in general. The name seems fitting :bigtu: |
Absolutely beautiful work. Wow.

His full build thread is over on MazdaRoadster.net, plenty of pics and info there.

I didn't provide a link because the regulars here like you always tell everyone to SEARCH. Here, let me spoon feed you :giggle::party:

 So what ever happened to that stripped NA chassis "out behind the shop" he mentioned in the build thread? |

John does pretty amazing BECAUSERACECAR work, I'm not surprised his personal projects look this good and actually work.
So what ever happened to that stripped NA chassis "out behind the shop" he mentioned in the build thread? $400 takes it |
$400 delivered? Cool, thanks! :giggle:

Emilio to do this car justice it needs a full spread on here, in luring the underside, interior, matching wheels/handles/hardtop chrome, etc. saw it in person last Saturday and it was beautiful.

Preface this with a big thanks to Emilio @ 949 Racing for his help in acquiring parts, and Alex @ 2ndChanceRoadsters for help with parts and body work (to say the least.)
About 2 years ago I picked up this: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 Originally I was going to try and create a high mileage commuter car but... There were a few 25 hour races to win, National Championships on the line, and more cars to build. And so I never felt like working on my own car. I just drove it, wracking up some 60,000 miles in those 2 years. Along the way I acquired a bunch of parts, a wrecked 2005, and then I got this: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 A nearly perfect 1992, automatic tub. So few dents on it. But then I did this to it: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 For a mere $1900, I had every last bit of paint, seam sealing, and sound deadening removed. Which meant that I had to add it all back, and Mazda puts that stuff in places that you can't reach. And it looked like someone had stood on the rear part of the car (right behind the top) leaving some big dents. They had also lifted the car from spots that bent under the weight. But I tried to get it resealed and primed. I had it seam welded. I put structural foam in the frame rails. But in the end I was not making good progress on it and set it aside. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 In the mean time the daily driver was getting tired. It now has 290,000 miles and I decided that I would make it the project car... since it still has paint and seam filler in all the critical ares. So I stripped it and sent it out to for paint and body work. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 The body shop stripped the paint... not me. This hole serves no purpose these days, hole delete. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 Ready for paint. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 In the mean time I was busy. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 ABS unit donated when I upgraded someone's car to an NB unit. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670737 And now let the mods begin. |

Day one. The NB tank mod.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670937 Day two. Add heat shielding in the transmission tunnel. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670937 Squeaky clean. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670937 Day three. Install roll bar. Trying to get all the cutting and drilling on the tub done so I can move on the interior work. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670937 Ready for a drive. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410670937 And that is it at the end of today. Stay tuned for news. |

Here is the steering wheel completed.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410671030 I added a third terminal on the NRG hub to get turns and horn to work. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410671030 |

I forgot about this. Since I had cut the dash down, I did not want the stock A/C and fan boxes. I put a Derale fan on the heater core to retain the defrost function. It is a bit noisy, but it works.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410671084 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410671084 Today I got to install the frame rails and front subframe. Also did more painting and getting ready for welding. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410671084 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410671084 Steve, those hubs came from the wrecked subframe we pulled off of Super in the last T25. Hope they still work. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410671084 I filled the subframe with structural foam before painting. |
