pro/e isn't without its faults... so many stupid methods for simple things it drives me nuts. i'd say for 99% of all design work, solidworks is fine. for the other 1%, make someone else do it.

I do the design/creation in solid works then import it into Pro/E for analysis.

Hahaha, I have a relatively unknown status with ~140 posts... when I started getting sick of M.net i just stopped posting so I could do it for you if you wanted. Tell me what, when, where, how

Solidworks is a great program. I have a copy at home that I play with from time to time.

I use Inventor at work, which is comparable to SW. Both have their pluses an minuses.

I learned parametric modeling in Pro-E. The statement above is very true, if you can use Pro-E, other programs are a breeze. Wildfire has updated their gui, but it is still a tough program to navigate.

Inventor and SW are great for designing non-critical parts. Their built in analysis tools are simple and give you a general factor of safety. They are not great analysis programs. If analysis needs to be done, time for ANSYS.

Something interesting...When you build a part in Inventor and use a reflective material (chrome, polished metal, etc), the default picture in the reflection is a picture of a black Miata. Kinda funny.

Back on topic....

Finding models/drawings of a Miata is going to be tough. I did an extensive search for drawing of my old truck (Dodge Ram 2500) and came up empty handed. I was able to find a 3d Max model, but it wasn't close to being accurate.

You may want to post this question on some of the SW forums. That is going to be your best bet.

I have some models of misc parts...end links, wheel spacers, and a few other parts that I have had made for me, but nothing stock and nothing worth while.

I learned ProE during my internship, but I believe during my senior year in aerospace engineering one of my classes is a shitload of NASTRAN/PATRAN... I used that last summer and thought it was a PITA. I think we learn some solidworks too, I don't remember

i started pro/e and used it for a few years. then moved to solidworks. then back to pro/e. pro/e was just as clunky as it was 10 years ago.

After using Pro-E since version 19 (1998) then switching to solidworks in '06, Pro-E is a lot less buggy than solidworks (solidworks 07 is lots more buggy than 06, of course). But I do like the easy integration of COSMOSworks and COSMOSmotion that we have now with the solidworks. Also our Faro arm software is used directly within solidworks.

I totally agree with what was said earlier, that if you know pro-e, then solidworks is easy. Especially the wildfire stuff, looked like PTC tried to make the interface look and act like solidworks.

Sorry, the only cad models of miata stuff I have are a half-dozen turbo manifold designs and a wireframe outline of the gt2871

Default opitions to help

There are 3d CAD database's if you search for them you may find parts to help you .. I'm working on something simular now .. 3D Rhino has a photo scan software that will allow you to build a cad image i haven't got the software yet but i plan to do it sooner or later.. let me know if it helps

Who the hell would find this useful?

"hey, if you search for something, you may find what you are looking for. there's a fancy voodoo software that won't do what I think it does and I don't plan on ever trying it. "

Do you honestly think this is a 'good' first post?
