Time Attack = time trial

One at a time, against the clock. Practice all day, timed runs in the afternoon.

Looks like one badass event to me.

Somehow in every single one of these classing systems my daily-driven car ends up in Unlimited/SuperModified/HolyFuckYouOwnAMoneyPit. I am going to try to make it out to this, depends on my tire/$$$ situation.

You did a 2:06 at Buttonwillow in 100° heat with a passenger. Only like 12 seconds faster than I can go in a 100% stock Miata. And you just bought 9's. You are way unlimited. Put a wing on that thing. Wait, on second thought don't put a wing on it, I'm in unlimited.

R-comps +6. 8" wheels+2. Suspension +2. Turbo +4. Intake +1. Megasquirt +1. Exhaust +1. That's 17 points right there!

There are no points added for stripping/ lightening the car. Where are the points you get back for not having stripped and lightened it?!? Working AC, power windows, power steering, cruise, carpet, seats, etc. should all be worth something back!

Lightening makes a difference but it's too difficult to quantify and police. Precisely how much weight have you pulled and where? That's where I invoke the god rule and bump people. A guy shows up with a Street class car that has 250lbs gutted out and still wants to run Street, gets bumped to Modified. Fair enough.

But this is why I posted the rules, they're a work in progress.

We need this event at Road Atlanta in the spring. I'd be there.

I started thinking.. If the event goes well and we start a series, we could formalize the points structure and franchise it for free. Local track day promoters run the same style events. Then we maybe have 4 big divisional events in each corner of the country and one year end biggies somewhere in the midwest.

Yes I am a dreamer!

This sounds awesome! I'll probably be there representing street class unless I somehow miraculously get my turbo on by then.

are drivetrain mods penalised?
my slow-as-stock car would already be in modified at least and still not be significantly faster

Not yet. I'm trying to leave that open.

If preparation difference are peaks an valleys, think of these rules as just cutting off the tops of the peaks. Driving and tuning ability will make up the difference. My experience is, the more you regulate a class, the more cheating you have. Have simple rules and the cheaters mix in with the legal mods that aren't regulated.

I know many of the cars that will show up. Most of them would be a second faster if cornerweighted and aligned.

If you want to help deal with gutting interior and points for that, have it work like a local club did here in Atl. You were required to have X interior panels to fit into a group,

Street cars where required to have
"Front half of interior, including both front seats and carpeting. (a few missing pieces is ok)"

anything above modified/street was free to have completely gutted interior. You could do the same such as +1 for removing ac& p/s or +1 for each also +1 for no carpet etc

Removing the interior doesn't make much of a difference until the dash goes. Seats are the big weight saver and I'd want to encourage evryone to use proper seats.

Some Miatas have no A/C or P/S form the factory so I certainly wouldn't penalize those that remove them. Guy has both, removes one and carries one more point than guy who had neither to start with..

Overall, I see very few tuners doing any substantial weight reduction. I'll leave that a gray area for the first event and see how it goes.

If the series take off and tuners start really stripping cars, we'll build a points table for it.

Ok, so the common turboed car around here should be in the modified group if they'd stick with a 7" wheel without R-comps.

My car would then be Tires +2. Suspension +2. Turbo +4. Intake +1. Megasquirt +1. Exhaust +1 for a total of only 11 points?

Unless suspension mods are cumulative also. Add for springs, then shocks, then sways, etc? Exterior engine mods are cumulative? Ecu+1, intake +1, etc? If exterior engine mods aren't cumulative I could then run R-comps over 41 with 7" wheels and be at 14 pts.

Am I figuring this right?
