John used to release pre-production pictures before having the final product done. He recently has had some bad luck with people coping his idea (Mainly Honda K parts) and releasing the same product at the same time. Therefore I often have to shut my trap. He can tell you that he has some really cool Miata and Honda K-series stuff soming out soon.

Well whover comes out with one first will sell a bunch if they are in the $100 range. There are about a dozen of us that want them right now.

 

Well I can appreciate that. But if someone's gonna copy it, they will regardless. Yeah it'll suck a little more if they copy it and have it to market at the same time as the official launch of the original; but there's not much difference if the copy comes out a few months later at a lower price. Sure, John may make a very slick part that looks pretty and is deburred, but most people will gladly pay less for a chinese-grade copy.

I would think some "buzz" with detail would be better than not saying "too much". But yeah it sucks to be the innovator, your stuff will be copied if it's good. That's just the way it works, especially with relatively simple machined parts, all it takes is someone with halfway decent reverse engineering skills to copy it.
