I think Mazda knows better than to Turbo the Rotary again

I know a couple of people who bought NC's that just might be kicking themselves now ...

Yeah, I read the RX8 info. What I was getting at is that it's not a typical move to push a lesser car beyond the power of their flagship and not do something to promote the flagship.

Definitely a positive move IMO for Mazda. Though reactive, it's a big jump, hopefully preventing the need for an immediate reaction to whatever the competition shows. I'm sure there's some calculation of benefit from the aftermarket too after seeing what the MS3 was making with $1k of tweaks.

 

m2 brings up a point: No matter what Mazda does, the new Miata will have the capability of 280-300whp with a chip. That means it will haul ***.

 

I'll take one in black, I'm just worried about the lack of aftermarket roll bars atm. If I get a boosted NC making 300 HP I'll need it.

They had to up the ante against the likes of the turbo versions of Sky and the Solstice. Which in my opinion, if I were in the market for a sub-30k drop top and it came down to those two, I would take the GM over the NC any day. Now, it would be a toss up, and we are talking new cars of course.

 

2.3 is a must do. Can't believe it wasn't done when the NC came out originally. Mazda has been slow on the uptake. Solstice/ sky has gotta be hurting them. The NC is better quality construction and driving experience but the LOOKS and power are lacking. Style wise they needed to go full on modern or more retro. What they came up with doesn't work.

I think build quality is marginally better, but the miata interior definitely looks cooler and although GM relaibility is better then euro garbage, I'd still err on the side of caution and buy the mazda. I drove a solstice gxp with koni coilovers, and its a boat, where the nc is still "nice and smooth" but still doesn't feel like stepping in mashed potatoes when you turn the wheel, even with stock suspension. Both are faster than my NA though so i'm the bitch.

A 250whp NC will be pretty ******* bad ***. Hopefully my **** will keep up.

I haven't driven a redline or GXP model yet so my driving opinion isn't based on those. Most of my complaints wouldn't change with an increase in HP. I didn't liike driving the Sky nearly as much. The high doors made it feel too closed in. Visibility sucked. I didn't feel nearly as connected to the car as with the Miata. Ergonomically things fall easily to hand in the Mazda where the GM stuff leaves me looking around and making akward motions. Then of course there's the joke of a trunk.

Looks wise, the Mazda doesn't even come close. With the Redline and GXP the Mazda can't compete on performance either (come on 2.3!).

I'm not saying driving the Skystice sucks but the connected feel of the Mazda is more confidence inspiring. I have to say the way it looks I would certainly buy the Soltsky before the NC. The NC just doesnt' cut if I were in the market for a new car.

I agree, the 2.3 will help the Miata immensely, but as cueball said about the GM twins, I say about the NC: adding horsepower won't compensate for what I feel it is lacking. Sorry NC.

 

^ i'm sorry. how exactly is NC lacking relative to your 93LE? it looks better, it handles better as a stock car, more room, faster... better build quality, better interior...

i love the sky. but 1) it's a GM. 2) the soft top/tonneau operation is f-tard. 3) it's still a GM

all i care about is how the 2.3L-t will f-up the weight distro? anyone know? another 150 lbs up front? at that price range, i think i'd still take a new S2K

they were heavily touting the 2.3L-T at MNAO last weekend during 7stock. Everyone was taking pictures of the motor on a stand. :gay:
