More ACT + Spec stuff

Alright, I've searched and I've read about 10 threads but I'm still a bit confused.

I've got a 90. building a t25 DIY...yada yada...looking for ~180 hp, maybe more later on ~9 psi to start out with:

I've heard the ACT stage 1 - HD PP and Street disc will start to slip after a while since it is only rated to 200 ft-lbs. So what about an ACT XT PP and Street disc? I found a kit from a local shop for $336.21 + tax is that reasonable? Rated up to 277 ft-lbs, but street disc so shouldn't be that much of a pain in the ass to drive right?

Or, like samnavy's did, go with the Spec Stage two, rated up to 239 ft-lbs for $290 + shipping I think

Or...lol, go with a ACT stage 1 1.8 clutch and pick up my friends fidanza 1.8 flywheel for cheap?

Decisions...decisions. The Car is a DD so the XT PP kinda scares me. But on my friends GSX, it wasn't THAT bad.

go with the badest you can get i prefer mechanical clutches and all that old school shit so all this talk of heavy clutch engagement is mut. The stiffer the better then you can do major clutch drops and kick some ass.

the HD kit feels like stock. no increased effort and holds perfectly fine. I've been running mine hard at 170rwhp without a hitch. Bumped it up to 12psi and just found the limits, close to 220rwhp.

the XD kit will have increased pedal effort due to the heavier PP. But it should hold just as advertised. If you aren't a pussy you should be able to handle it.

the XT with street disc is just fine. not hard to drive at all.

YEEE HAAAAWWWW!!!! Amen brutha, turn and burn!!!!!
I love that guy!

I just rolled over 100miles on my Spec Stage II, so not yet broken in. I'll say it again... IT FEELS EXACTLY LIKE STOCK. The flywheel thing is another question alltogether.
The only thing in question for me is the reputation for Spec's. They seem to have more problems than ACT's... but that may simply be from people not following the break-in procedure right. I've disconnected my wastegate to prevent me from running it too hard too quick.
But for now, I couldn't be happier with it.

I have a spec stage 3 on my camaro, did the break in period, and no problems with 3 years now, tons of power going through that clutch also.

I can hook it up through either www.clutchnet.com or www.turboclutch.com

I would go with the ACT 1.8L clutch. The 1.8L stuff is a lot beefier and holds more torque. The increased mass of the 1.8L clutch is nothing you are ever going to feel. I would get the ACT xtreme PP and street disk w/ that.

bripab007 12-11-2006 05:31 PM

FWIW, I did a Spec Stg. 2 1.8L kit and bought a lightened 1.8L flywheel. Good for 275lb-ft. Probably 15-20% stiffer than stock.

but that runs over 400-500 bucks for what I've seen. I'm a balla on a budget dawg ;).

I can get the ACT Stg 1 for $267 and the ACT XT PP and Street for $330. and the spec stage 2 for $290.

the ACT stage 1 HD PP for the 1.8 is $358

What do you suggest w/ about 300-350 dollars max to use.

Pitlab77 12-11-2006 10:00 PM

I had an ACT Xtreme with Street/strip disc on my. Held everything I threw at it

miatamania 12-12-2006 01:59 PM

I talked to the guy at the local shop...I'm thinking I might go with the XT PP and Street Disc...its $331 and should be plenty...since its the street disc, it should be fine, just a little stiff b/c of the XT PP from what I've heard.

Braineack 12-12-2006 02:41 PM

I was driving Newbsauce's miata last night and it has an obivously heavier PP. I acually prefer it to my featherweight clutch ACT HD PP.

No P/S on the otherhand had me sweating....:riaa:

Newbsauce 12-12-2006 05:15 PM

My PP and Brains are like night and day. I almost kicked his clutch through the floorboard on the first shift. And for the record, no P/S builds character. :bigtu:

And it should engage the about same, since it is a street disc right?
