Default Motor Mount Confirmation

Hi all,

From my research on this site, it seems the consensus is that the competition mounts (NAY1) are perfect for the car, and the oem ones are too soft, whereas any other ones are too hard for the street.

My question is: Has anyone seen any noticeable (or negligible) NVH changes with a hardtop on? I found some posts over on grassroot Motorsports where they said it was unbearable with a permanent hardtop ( which is what I run 24/7).

Interestingly, my local dealer ( in Canada) can get these competition mounts for $38.61 CAD !

Thanks fellas

I also run a hardtop full time and honestly didn't feel much when I had comp mounts. NVH does increase in general with hardtop if you have an exhaust drone/urethane exhaust hangers, but the contributions to switching to stiffer mounts was always far less than the exhaust in my own experience.

Is there any specific exhaust hangers you would recommend ?

It seems like the turbo Miata sages suggest stock hangers with worm gear clamps placed circumferentially to adjust height/stiffen and zipties transverse through the bushing to keep the worm gear clamp in place.

Comp mounts do not make a big difference in NVH. I can't tell they are comp mounts and not regular ones really. The only difference may be attributed to the fact that they are fresh and not broken.

Interesting. I'm guessing it reduces the drone and vibration in the exhaust?

I'll go with the COMP mounts then. Thanks for feedback fellas.

More it helps hold up the exhaust and keep it from moving as much. With the big *** magnaflow muffler you want them as it is heavy as ****.

I'm curious where "in Canada" you can get these for $2 USD, haha. I'm wondering if this is a local dealer price or if all of Mazda Canada would be around the same price...

Sincerely,
Another Curious Canadian

I asked the parts guy at my local Mazda dealer to search for this part number Nay1-39-040. Hit up your dealer and let me know!

Blackbird Fabworx has made some motor mounts that have gotten a few good reviews.

I just had the engine mounts changed to the competition mounts. Verified with the white stripe on them ( steal at $38 CAD = 28 USD each @ dealer) .

The change in the car is monumental. Shifting is improved in every way, the level of vibrations has plummeted throughout the rev range. It now only vibrates at idle - which some intake manifold cleaning / seafoam should fix.

Thanks fellas!

If the Comp mounts are not that bad for NVH could I go with even harder stiffer mounts? Or are the comp mounts really unbeatable.

The comp mounts are good for a daily driver. Utter trash for a car that's used hard. They aren't any more durable than the non-comp oem mounts.

Got comp ones instead of OEM replacements, work as they should and NVH is great for a daily.

What are some mounts that are good for going hard with, or have the longest life.
