Default To Much Volts....HELP!

I have a 1.6L FM2 with a Volt meter. It usually is at 14volts and now it is at 18 volts. Is this bad? Should i drive the car? What are some basic things to check out that could be the problem? All help would be appreciated.

About the only thing it could be is the voltage regulator, providing the volt meter you are using is correct. The VR is part of the alternator so probably best to replace the whole unit. The VR would also include the bridge rectifier and dividers that convert the 3 phase AC output from the alternator.
