My BF hates my miata

Since i got my miata she started to hate it. She even wrote me a note with 10 reason why she hates it.

Here how it goes, word to word.

1.It is uncomfortable- the seats suck, it is a stiff, bumpy ride and i am too low to the ground.

2. You drive it like a race car

3. It is loud and stinks

4. it breaks down often

5. I hate convertibles

6. I hate sun on me and wind blowing my hair

7. With top on it is still hot as shit

8. I might as well drive a toy barbie car, because it would be, just as comfortable and same size.

9. It has no air bags and is unsafe

10. It stinks inside like an old car.

So yeah, not sure what to do here.

She absolutely hates it. However she hates big cars too. She loves Mini coopers and 2 door golfs.

I even converted the car to e85 to mostly cut down on the stink, she said its better but she still hates it.

Any suggestions?

levnubhin 09-10-2009 10:36 AM

Why would you care what your GIRLFRIEND thinks? Dump her, she's not the one or tell her to drive her own damn car.

Yep I agree. A few more PSI should bring her around... :giggle:

Rushin 09-10-2009 10:46 AM

LOL, i need to clarify something. She is actually my wife. Just used to calling her my GF its easier, lol. So yeah, too much trouble to go through divorce.

I did take her for a fun drive, almost spun out and she started to cry and i had a really big bruise on my shoulder because she kept punching me until we got home.

Perhaps you should take your girlfriend out for the rides instead of your wife.

levnubhin 09-10-2009 10:51 AM

Well that's a different story. My wife dosen't like my car either, so the easy solution is to just keep her out of it. She has her own car.

That's exactly what I do. My wife doesn't even mind the Miata, but she has still only been in it like 3 times in the last year. She has her Pathfinder, or she drives my IS300 if I take the Miata out.

Rushin 09-10-2009 10:59 AM

Thats pretty much been the solution for the past year. But it still sucks, i wish she at least didnt mind it.

Who cares what she thinks? It's not hers and she has her own car. Tell her to get over it.

A gentleman would offer to rub some soothing lotion on them.

My wife isn't in love with the Miata either, but she enjoys riding in it occasionally. Most of her complaints are related to how much time I spend on the car. She's jealous of my mechanical mistress. I remind her that it could be much worse.

we knew you were married but we still thought you were talking about your girlfriend

naarleven 09-10-2009 11:47 AM

Can't say i've never heard that before OP.

In fact i've heard every single one on the list.

slebidia 09-10-2009 11:49 AM

Introduce her to your girlfriend. Should fix any of her concerns about the Miata.

rayray934 09-10-2009 11:56 AM

dude i feel you my gf is the same way! she hates it so i tell her to drive her pos fwd rsx type s and that way we we get to drive the cars we love. She shows up to our date smelling fresh and clean, and i show up sweaty and smelling like i just got off the race track since im running a jackson racing cat and have no ps or ac lol. but latley end up riding with her or running her car the 9 grand every shift haha

y8s 09-10-2009 12:00 PM

Is she a Goth?

tell her you will sell the miata if she gives you a blowjob a day every day for 5 years. but first she has to do it for the first 6 months to prove she's committed.

incidentally, pics of wife so we can really give our opinions.

hustler 09-10-2009 12:02 PM

some time you have to put tips on a bitch.

Its called denial I too went through it.

cueball1 09-10-2009 12:08 PM

My wife's list.

Too small to be safe.
Stinks of age and exhaust.
Rides too rough.
Seats aren't comfortable.
It's not dignified or respectable. (She wishes I'd get a Boxster or the like)
Too loud.
It's an old tiny crapbox.

I've been driving it for a couple years now. 20K+ miles boosted. Maybe 15 track days. No plans on giving it or her up. I like it, it's fun for me, doesn't matter that she doesn't like it. If we need to go somewhere together we use her car. Problem solved.

Just tell your wife it could be worse, you could be into really expensive cars other women would admire. With the Miata, you have guys hitting on you.

buffon01 09-10-2009 12:09 PM

The only complaint Ive had is the lack of A/C.... and I still manage to get some road head after all :giggle:

y8s 09-10-2009 12:13 PM

i dont think i get any complaints on the miata from the fiancee.

she likes how I drive it and having the top down...

lol :bowrofl:

Every gf, or girl for that matter that has been in the miata loves it. I'm lucky I guess cause I would much rather go for top down rides with my girl than alone.

I've heard complaints over the years from girl and guy passengers, but its usually only when the fucker breaks down in the middle of nowhere and I have to pull out my tools and have them hold a flashlight.

My new gf however hasn't even seen the miata yet. I'm still not 100% sure whats she's going to think about it. I have a feeling she might be the first to hate it. Probably just jinxed myself.

This is my situation exactly. Ever since I blew it up in June, I have been spending a lot of time on the car trying to get it back running. I built a motor and put it in the car in 2.5 months. Having never built a motor before, I was pretty proud to get it all done in that time. She also complains about the loud exhaust.

deliverator 09-10-2009 12:23 PM

When I first got my WRX, there was a whining noise almost every time I got into boost.

Was able to determine that it was coming from the passenger side.

Tried to fix it, but couldn't make her shut up. Broke up with her.

hustler 09-10-2009 12:37 PM

When a ho in the passenger seat can't shut up, you gotta cell-phone whip a bitch like Naomi Campbell on her Mexican maid.

Everyone I know hates my car on the street. I drive normally because a nasty ticket will cost me a job, and people think its cheap and should be a Ferrari or something. I really like watching them try to pull the door handle off on the track though. I can't wait to get an instructor in the car at TWS:
"So this car has a turbo?"
-Yes, a little one.
"How much power does it make?"
-I don't know, enough to put you in the seat...lol.
They probably won't ask about the big nasty brakes, or suspension...the really scary part.

^ oh...that kills me!

My wife isn't a big fan of the Miata...but she puts up with it because she knows I enjoy it. She'll hop in every other weekend when we can leave the little one behind, although that hasn't happened recently since I don't have a passenger seat.

She never worried about what I did with it since she HAD her own car. Now that we're down to the family wagon and the Miata she has a little more say in how the build goes...so it's going to get an interior, passenger seat and heater again regardless of how awesome the handling is right now.

Her only other gripes are the usual money and time stuff...but I usually wake up at the butt-crack of dawn on Sundays to spend the morning in the garage, and she still cooks me an awesome Waffle House style breakfast as long as I shut the garage shortly thereafter.

I've weighed the cost of divorce vs. increased project spending...and I don't see any benefit. Besides...I'd miss steak n' bj day.

flier129 09-10-2009 12:46 PM

My g/f drives a miata :-D. She didn't like it when it had no cat and no turbo. Turbo muffled it, its fast, then she was back to liking it :).

DontPassTheFence 09-10-2009 01:38 PM

no bitching over here yet except when I drive like an asshole. Although Im a pussy------ and still have a/c, p/s, abs, etc.

96rdstr 09-10-2009 01:44 PM

My wife doesnt hate my car, but she has only ridden in it maybe 10 times in 6 years. She has her Mini Cooper and loves it. Everything else to her is just a car, and doesn't measure up.

She is happy, and I can do whatever I want to my car without questions being asked.

DontPassTheFence 09-10-2009 01:47 PM

Oh, I forgot to add - why is your wife in the passenger seat of your car. Last I checked, miatas did not come equipped with kitchens.

Why is divorce so expensive?

...because it's worth it.

Oldie but goodie.

Our IT manager has payed for three of them...he doesn't regret a single one. He's only married to his current wife just to spite his ex who would've cashed in on his insurance if he croaked since they were married more than 10yrs.

Atleast once a week I ask myself if I seriously feel I'll ever end up divorcing my wife. The day I answer yes I'll just do it that day, while it's as cheap as it'll ever get.

I love my family though.

Rushin...

On that interior funk...seriously...RIP IT ALL OUT!

I just pulled everything out, cleaned the tub, cleaned (hosed) out all the HVAC, and am putting in reflectix and new carpet. It already smells loads better, and this is the first Miata project my wife is actually excited about.

She's springin' for a Momo wheel to top it all off. While you're in there you can pull all the airbag sensors, compute and harness, and anything else you think you don't need.

Honestly...you would not believe the shit that lives underneath your carpet. I think the culprits are the grommets in the floor, and clogged drains in the rockers. Mine used to get soaked in the rain.

seraph 09-10-2009 01:59 PM

Man that sucks for you all that your GF or wife have so many complaints. My wife just doesn't like the bucket seats. She likes the turbo sounds, the loud exhaust, the top down, going fast, and likes the harness(she says it's safer than the regular belts, i agree). I just need to change the passenger seat to stock and no complaints here.

RotorNutFD3S 09-10-2009 02:49 PM

My g/f liked my car so much she got a Miata of her own. The only time she really actually complained is before I added a/c. She makes fun of me when something breaks. She has also told me she'd never seriously complain about the car because she can see how much I enjoy it and because she knows that my love of cars came way before her.

buffon01 09-10-2009 02:58 PM

EDIT: I have been told before that I love my POS more than any of them ... lol

Bond 09-10-2009 03:21 PM

The trick is to pull the passenger seat out and put some patio seat cushions/other padding/ blankets on the floor.

It's way more comfortable for your bitch, and usually they fall asleep. Then you don't have to talk to them.

mine are usually cracked-out on GHB so I just use the harness so I don't have the lifeless blob to deal with on the way home from the bar. This is another reason you want valet...who wants to lug a lifeless body around?
