With clutch pedal down I hear this loud sound of death (screatching squealing spound). Let off the pedal it goes away. Also from time to time with clutch pedal down and trans in gear the clutch stays engaged. I have to force it out of gear when that happens. I also have difficulty changing gears from time to time, unless I dbl clutch then it shifts smoothly.

TO bearing, or a synchro going if this happens in a specific gear. Check out hydraulics first to make sure it's not anything obvious however.

 

Unless the sound of death happens with the engine off, it's clutch related. Doesn't hurt to check the hydraulics though. I'd say TO bearing, but expect a clutch job. Broken TO bearings often fly around and destroy the rear main seal too. If it works at all still, I'd say it hasn't flown apart yet, but I'd replace the deal anyways.

What he said^ expect a clutch job, typically any situation I've come across a bad TO bearing is when you press the clutch pedal down (No Noise), and when you let off the clutch pedal (noise follows).

If the trans will shift fine while the car is off, and then has trouble when it's running, chances are a bad clutch

 

TOB will have a supercharger-like whine to it while driving.

I wonder about your pressure plate being bad.

 

dead TOB and pressure plate that probably has a few dying (bent) fingers.

 

That sound you hear could be the throwout bearing cutting the teeth in your pressure plate.

If something is badly worn, the throwout bearing will not be able to push the pressure plate far enough to release the clutch.

Theres no noise at all while driving, it only comes when I push the pedal in and it isn't all the time. The trans shifts smoothly with the car off and if I dbl clutch. If I don't dbl clutch it wont shift smoothly probably about 75% of the time. Is the noise definitely a bad TOB or could bad hydraulics cause it? Why would dbl clutching allow me to shift smoothly?

I'm going with hydraulics and TO bearing. You can shift smoothly with the engine of because - the engine is off. Disengaging the clutch is not necessary to shift. Double clutching while the engine is running pumps enough pressure for you to be able to get the clutch to disengage. Having to use force to get the shifter out of a gear is a classic hydraulic problem symptom. The nasty noises ... TO bearing.

 

Alright, guess that solves it.
