Curiously enough, my noise doesn't sound like that. Mines higher pitched and more screetching. But they occur under similar conditions. I'll put up a video asap.

Here is a video without the cat in place. The exhaust is loud as hell but I can't here the buzzing noise anymore.
I really hope it is just the cat

What does yours sound like? I tried capturing mine on a digital camera and I couldn't hear it. Probably too high pitched. Mine kinda sounds like a bunch of skittles being poured into a big metal funnel. I'll try taking my cat out this weekend. I'd be ecstatic if that's the cause. I'd be pissed also because this **** is NEW.

Edit:

I checked again and it sounds like it's coming from the engine. I might have a rebuild on my hands. My ******* pos camera can't pick up the sound.

EDIT ( again ):

Oh my god ******* bingo.

Found out my problem is wastegate related. If I pull the wastegate actuator rod back, the sound is muffled. If I pull up on the wastegate rod, the sound is ALMOST gone. Also I should note, you can feel the vibrations in the rod while it makes the noise. Anyone who has the problem should definitely check this off their list. I've got a quality video I'm importing to my computer. I'll post it asap.

Next, what the hell is causing this.

After compression it's not so quality but the audio is better than the digi cam.

I talked to someone at FM. Hopefully I'll get the updated wastegate setup soon and that will solve my problem.

I know, very similar conditions, completely different solutions. Hopefully the other guys can get noises solved too.

@nicacus: I think 98% I am having the same noise since my rebuild (basically BEGI-S3 w/MazdaSpeed Motor mounts and other irrelevant stuff).

The shop said this noise comes with the new setup and is probably due to the motor mounts. I suspected the CAT from day 1. They told me that if they fix the exhaust it is gone, so that contributed to that thought.

Did you get a new CAT and confirm it is now gone? I am getting a high flow one to replace the OEM CAT.

I actually removed the heat shield off the cat and it went away as far as I can tell. I was going to put a test pipe on it but it doesnt fit oddly enough.

So your nocat movie was w/cat but heatshield removed. So the noise comes from the cat heat shield? I think I need that heat shield (car has turbo and cat gets very hot) so I will see what I can do.

I think his video was without the cat, but then later discovered he can take off the heat shield and the noise would go away. Either way, just get the high flow and call it a day.

Correct.

I'll be getting a high flow cat sooner or later. removing the heatshield has caused no repercussions

I just finished my 5 speed swap and I have a similar noise going on. I have a cheap XTD 6 puck sprung clutch and light flywheel. And the condition of the transmission was unknown. I pulled it from a car that had been sitting for roughly 7 years. The noise doesn't really bother me too much. Its not a DD. More of a track toy/beater so it is what it is. It would be pretty cool if the trans doesn't explode though. I think I will try out the ppf adjustment for kicks.
