Name that bolt (again)

This is the 2nd time for this to happen. So bolt flew off of the car yesterday...it got pretty beat up from other cars running over it but whatever. I have checked everything...transmission bolts are all there, suspension bolts, ppf...I'm at a loss....

The bolt is pretty thick. It fits a 24mm socket.

Ideas?

Are you sure you didnt just run it over like every one else? That doesnt look like any bolt Ive seen on the car. But I have not taken the entire car apart so I cant make any promises.

Rouphis 03-31-2010 08:02 PM

Thats not a miata bolt. All the bolts on a miata are flanged.

I dont think that's a stock bolt. maybe the small PPF bolt or a subframe...

stranges12712 03-31-2010 08:06 PM

Drain plug.

Well it happened when I went through a yield about 15mph...I heard a " ting ting ting" and then saw this bolt flying in the rear view. I just didn't see how my car could pick that up and throw it like that without it coming off of my car.

No way in hell that's a miata bolt. Probably even standard. Try a 15/16" socket. There's a possibility its for the battery tie down bracket though.

Thats the alignment bolt for the muffler bearings.

If that belonged on your car somewhere you wouldn't have a problem finding out where, I highly doubt it came off of a Miata.

I've stripped enough Miatas down to a bare tub to confidently say, "Thank you for picking up someone else's trash."

+1, that is not a Miata bolt.

mgeoffriau 03-31-2010 11:23 PM

Can't be a muffler bearing alignment bolt, it's too big. That's a drain plug for your blinker fluid reservoir.

Sparetire 03-31-2010 11:24 PM

Honestly that looks like the kind of thread pitch used in landscaping lags or assembling a swing-set.

dustinb 03-31-2010 11:59 PM

It's the bolt for your crank pulley.

Just joking.

So that is where one of the bolts for my tractor's tiller went. Wonder how it got to Texas. I expect you to pay return shipping since your car ate it.

This made me laugh... I have mine stripped down completely, and have never seen that one either.

FRT_Fun 04-01-2010 08:23 AM

I've been damn near close to everywhere in and around my car and have yet to see something similar to that.... Have you replaced or removed/installed something recently?

Mach929 04-01-2010 08:34 AM

never seen a factory bolt like that on a miata. besides if you lost a bolt that big you'd know it
