Question NB Turbo Questions.

Hey! I’m new to cars and I wanted to see if this looked like a good setup. I don’t have the budget to buy it yet but I’ll be able to soon.

-Garrett GT2560r Turbo
-Kraken Turbo mani/downpipes
-MS3 Basic pnp ecu
-AEM X-series Wideband uego af/r gauge kit
-BOFI Racing EV14 640cc Fuel injectors
-FM Happy meal kit
-Boost Products 400hp Intercooler
-IAT sensor
-NGK BKR7E Spark plugs
-Mishimoto Radiator
-FM MAC Boost control solenoid kit
-Forge Motors Dual piston BOV
-Skid Nation Coolant reroute

Let me know if there’s anything I should consider/change or add. Thanks!

The consensus view on MT.net regarding Mishimoto Radiators is NO, you should do better.
SEARCH for better options here on the forum.

DON'T get a coolant re-route kit until you've decided on what radiator you'll be running because they include a hose that may or may not suit your radiator.

Ideally you want a radiator that mounts the hose to the extreme-most cold-side so that the hose won't foul the TB plumbing and NOT require a kink to get around it.

Do you need a 400hp intercooler? I'm betting NO.
We don't have a lot of space in our cars so "SIZE MATTERS"!

I also recommend holding off for larger injectors so that you don't waste money when you realise you need "MOAR POWA"!

@Lokiel Ok, so, Better radiator, 300hp intercooler, and bigger fuel injectors? Is there anything else I’ll need? (Thanks btw!)

I always find it odd that intercoolers often get quoted as nn hp.. as it’s rarely a suitable way to measure its effectiveness unless comparing two coolers on exactly the same application..

I could have a car that makes 600hp with an efficient intercooler, and then replace that with a straight pipe that flows really well but limits safe power to 400hp because of massive IATs. And then market that as a 400hp intercooler.

Putting this ‘400hp’ intercooler on a normally 200hp miata might limit it to 150hp, “but its says it’s good for 400hp?”…

@rascal Ok, I see. What intercooler would you recommend?

My car (NB1) is track only, supercharged via a rotrex, around 240whp/8psi unbridled, though currently pulleyed down well under 200whp due to classing reasons so a completely different use case than you, and probably not relevant.
fwiw, I use a 12" x 11" x 3" Cooling Pro intercooler OTR style ( same as TDR does)

There is actually a heap of posts and garage builds documented here that specify what size intercoolers are used, so best to search through those to get a more accurate example than I could give you.

There is nothing wrong with putting a bigger intercooler on the car even at low power levels. However if you don't plan on huge power ( gt2560 is a 300whp capable turbo) get a vibrant 12800 fmic. It fits great and it's got enough cooling for 350-400whp if you ever want to go that high.

Since your making a list, I would add a 3 gauge pod somewhere, to hold your gauges. I would definitely add a water temp gauge with it. I have a boost gauge in mine, but it has become a source for vacuum leaks, so it's disconnected. Get the FM heat shield. It will save you grief.

Yep, the boost gauge you can get electronic so you just run a vacuum line to the sender and not directly to the gauge. I also have water temp, and oil pressure and I have a wideband on a single pod. Never hurts to have a good way to monitor the engine.

I would simplify things and just go through the Kraken GT2560R system builder. Add the intercooler, and Turbosmart BOV (i got the Chinese BOV and don't love it). It also comes with the AIT sensor. Skip the Kraken lines and fittings kit and just make your own AN lines. Spend the extra and get some flow matched injectors from FlowForce. For the Wideband you could save some money and get a Spartan 2 or 3 light.

If you end up with some extra money to burn, the Kraken 3" exhaust is sick and the FM coolant re-route is top notch.

I need to update my build thread. Your build is looking very similar to mine.
