Currently rebuilding my VVT motor and it seems iv misplaced the two banjo bolts needed to hold the oil line that runs from the intake side of the block and behind the valve cover.
The only replacements iv been able to find are $100+ for both bolts. Does anyone know a source that i can get these from? It's the only thing holding back the rebuild at this point :(
Someone will eventually chime in and move this to the WTB section.
They're both NLA, and required for engines they're on, so there's a reason they're $100 for a used set. I'll look around to see if I have extras, but my pricing won't be far off what they go for normally.
I have in the past ran a PTFE line like a turbo oil feed line for the VVT. The block as we know is BSP, so get a BSP to -3 or -4 adapter, cut the hardline off the 2-bolt flange at the front of the valve cover, and tap it for either bsp or npt, use another adapter, and connect the two with a soft line.
Call Treasure Coast Miata. I'm sure they have some. They have a $25 minimum order I think. The last time I got something little from them I went ahead and got a spare oem valve cover gasket.
I lost the block side one when I built my car a few years ago and ordered one from Alex @ SNS... I think it was $50 shipped to me... crazy, but it was what it was.
I knew the specs on it at the time and went to a hydraulic shop and the guy pulled out this massive bin of banjo bolts.... nothing. The thread pitch is uncommon in the USA...shocking.
Hello friend, I'm here to help. 've got a VVT motor on ice I pulled the VVT banjos out to measure.
The larger bolt is an M16x1.5 banjo, about 39mm under-head length as mentioned. Bell Metric has a pretty decent replacement, their SKU is BNJB16X1.5LCLZ they list it as being 36mm long, I'm unsure if that is the under head length or the overall length. The factory bolt has a ton of thread engagement so it would probably work either way.
The smaller bolt is the real tricky one, its a 1/8 BSPP thread, which is "British Standard Pipe Parallel" threads (not tapered like NPT or regular BSP.) This equates to 3/8"-28tpi, but it uses the Whitworth 55* point threads, unlike almost all other threads that use a 60* thread point. Anyway, I digress. This is sometimes called a number 2 BSP thread, and searching for them is quite tricky, especially for a US supplier. The factory bolt is ~30mm under head length and about 38mm overall length. This bolt on ebay (in Nevada) is the correct thread, and doing some digging I've figured out its 33mm long, but again I'm not able to determine if that is UHL or OAL. But given it is within 5mm of the OAL length of the factory bolt it would probably work fine.
Godspeed bud! You're at least armed with the correct info now
