hi, i just have a ACT Prolite flywheel and Heavyduty clutch kit installed to my 91 miata, they're both 220mm for 1.8L, right after i have them installed, the clutch is too stiff even i have the clutch rod adjusted to the max-lenght, i still couldn't shift. the next day i have the slave-cylinder replaced alot with new clucth oil to the whole system, now it works abit better, i could shift but the engage/clamping point it's very very close to the floor, just wonder if any of u have a ACT clutch installed and have the same problem. i checked the slave cylinder it's all the same from 90-05 so i couldn't get one which is more powerful to push the pleasure-plate open more, so is it my master cyclinder is dead (it looks ok tho), or is there any possible mistake could be made during the clutch/flywheel installation, or is it just a common problem when using ACT clutches or stiffer pleasure-plate??

 

that is normal. i have the heavy-duty or xt00 ACT clutch. that is how they are. it's stiffer because the pressure plate is stiffer, hence the "heavy duty" rating. it clamps the clutch disk harder to the flywheel.

you will get used to it. trust me on that one. although, if you drive that car a lot, going to a normal-clutch'ed car, you will literally stomp that clutch pedal like it's a bug. :lol:

in bumper to bumper traffic, it helps to just shift your lever into neutral, saves your left leg from cramping.

 

i know it should be stiffer, but not to a point that i have changed the slave cylinder, clutch line, bled the system twice, set the clutch rod to maximum travel, but the engagement point is still way down to the floor, it's like if i step on it all the way to the floor i can merely shift it in gear, but once i let go like half a cm, it just clamp on and go, i had racing clutches installed to my civic and MR2 b4, but except for the stiffer padel, everything else is normal, now i am just think if the clutch disc is installed reversely, i hope it's not. and i dunno it there is a brake-in period for the clutch kit.

 

The engagement point when you first install the HD is pretty low.... When I had mine installed, I stalled it twice before getting on the highway to go home. Then I got packed... and drove the 1200kms to the gap, needless to say, it was broken in by the time I was there....

Adjust it as best as possible, then go out for a good long run on the weekend. <G> You should be OK, and the engagement point should move up a little after the inital break in.

I see, i will try driving for a bit in the weekend, then re-bled the entire system if needed, and if it still state the same, i will replace the master cylinder, then i should have everything fixed.

 

I know what you're talking about, and its totally weak. I don't see why they didn't just make teh another throw out bearing thats thicker so we aren't so inconvenienced. Its not like thier stuff is cheap anyway.

 

I thought I should do my share of ridiculously old thread bumping seeing that its the new trend. ya feel me brain?
