Need new tires
 

I have a '90 with 15" rims. I'm not sure what thye are, but the tires on them now are 205/50/15 86H. I live in FL, so I need a good all around tire that does well in heavy rain and still takes the summer temps (doesn't need extreme cold or snow, it will never see snow). Just looking for something good and not too expensive that still responds well to spirited driving. I looked around at other tire posts, but no one really says why they like certain tires more than others for reasons other than price and stickiness.

Where should I buy and get them mounted/balanced? Also, who does good alignment work for cheap? I'm in the Orlando area.

also, the car's been dropped ~1.5", about 11.5" center to fender in the front and 12" in rear.

The Hankook RS2 is reported to do well in the rain, and my Bridgestone RE-01Rs are also adequate on wet ground. Probably the best rain tire I ever owned was the Goodyear Eagle GS-D3, however you're giving up some dry grip with that one.

BFG G force sports cheap and effective in rain or wet just don't try them on snow. They last a decent while and have excelent raod manners.

I like the looks of the BFG G-force sports. Where can I get the Hankook RS2s for a good price?

Azeni 615's.

I second the kooks, I've had my set for a couple years and they have even been out on one track day. My local tire place doesn't typically carry them, but they were able to order them from their supplier. They actually came in cheaper than me ordering them online.

I had a set of the old azenis and hated them in the rain. I don't know have any experience with the new azenis.

a miata in the rain sucks, but a turbo miata in the rain REALLY sucks. dont buy a "good rain tire"

Firestone is trying to offer me Bridgestone Potenza G 009 for $370.28. Anyone running these? Should I avoid them? According to tirerack, the traction isn't as good, but everything else is pretty good.

That's because this site is mostly about getting the most performance for the dollar. If you're not going to track or autocross the car and it's a DD or cruiser you might be happy with the General UHP.

The RE-01Rs? I've had mine for about six months now, and so far very happy. Cornering response and grip is hugely improved vs my old T1S, and they don't appear to be wearing badly.

I ordered the Konig Minuz and the Falken Ziex 512's mounted, balanced and shipped for $528. They have the Konig Britelites and feather lites too. You could afford to resell the wheels and keep the tires have them remounted and balanced on your own wheels and you could really save some money.

+1 These rock - amazing grip and believe it or not they have done really well in the rain in NC - even pouring rain on the hwy. Of course they won't last more than a yr - maybe two if you don't drive like me :-) I usually replace a set every 10 months :-P I had run Toyo T1S for a long time but the azenis actually seem to do better in the rain. I've also had the Ziex's and they don't suck but they don't have the grip of the 616's - however they do last longer.

I have S-drive tires on my car and are really happy with the dry and rain grip. I got 195/50 R15 they have really stiff sidewalls.

I don't no how they will stand for a turbo miata, but its another choice to look into.

615 do a whole lot better in rain than the 215 did, but thats more of a duh kinda thind

falken azenis hands down. i live in florida right over by tampa, i know where you're coming from. you're probably looking at $500 mounted if you don't search around, but it's worth it.

they're pretty scary in standing water, but who gives a fuck. The rs2 will last a little longer.

I guess a lot of people run the 615s...I'm curious how the g-force compares. Dry traction is said to be better with the 615, but the g-force looks better all around with slightly less traction on dry, much more traction on wet and a much longer life than all the rest.
