New rear main seal gap
Hello,
I just installed a new OEM rear main seal using the Flyin Miata tool. The procedure went smoothly but the new seal has a gap between the outer lip and crank at 3 and 9 'o clock (see pic). Will this leak? Should I buy another seal? Thanks |
Sorry having trouble uploading pic

that's not normal.
I wouldn't take a chance on something that takes that long to be replaced |
You should at least send me the tool so I can test it for you. I'll return it.

Mine didn't have a gap like that. When I installed mine I didn't use a fancy tool either. I also turned the motor over a few rotations to "seat" it and make sure it was still even. maybe try that?

I spun the motor over a few times and it improved the gaps but they are not completely gone. I have ordered two more seals. Hopefully I will get a better fit, if the gaps continue I will run with it and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for all the replies.
