Default New turbo slight axial shaft play?????

I just received my new china turbo yesterday. I decided to open it up and inspect it last night. When I press firmly on the impeller there is axial movement. Should it be rock solid with no movement. It spins freely when I apply the axial force. I'm just not sure what is acceptable. I want to know if I should send it back for an exchange.

Some play is normal, as long as you can't make it touch it's fine.

And you certainly can't speak, your turbo has more play than your ***** in an elephant.

damn, then I shouldn't have listed my 2554 that I sold as having shaft play.

The china turbo has a year warranty. Hopefully if it nukes it doesn't take out the motor.

Levnubhin: What's involved with measuring the specs of the turbo. Is it easy for a novice? Since your 2860 speced to a 2871, I'm wondering what my 2871 specs.

A BB turbo will have a little bit of wiggle. A sleeve bearing should be pretty tight. Chinese turbos are hit and miss sometimes.

Just a thought. Have you tried putting some oil in the bearing housing? I'm willing to bet that that will take out a lot of the play.

Just take it apart and measure everything with a digital caliper. Here's my pics to give you an idea........... China 2860 charger pictures by LEVNUBHIN - Photobucket
