No More Turbo Miata

yeah so i wake up at around 8:30 on june 2nd get dressed to what i need to do and i walk outside to jump in my car. i get it turn the key and it just cranks im like oooo great somethings broken so i open the hood everything looks fine...then i think well hey, maybe a fuse is blown so i open the box to find that my dad has taken out the fuel injection fuse so i can't drive my car to work! apparently he was soo pissed that i turboed MY car that i DON'T get MY car back untill I'm 18!!! which is in little over a month.....so no car to drive to work movies just anywhere i need to be! my dad is the gayest in the world!!!!!!!!!!:vash:

Bryce 06-03-2008 12:40 PM

This is the funniest thread I've read all day!

Splitime 06-03-2008 12:42 PM

I like your dad.

Braineack 06-03-2008 12:42 PM

There's at least 17 things wrong with this thread.....contributing to the "gay miata" cliche IS one of them. Pulling the fuse is not. :fawk::noob:

Newbsauce 06-03-2008 12:43 PM

Buy a new fuse. Pretend he didn't take it out and just tell him something was wrong with the car and you fixed it :) Then drive the car into a pole.

Bond 06-03-2008 12:43 PM

I'm pretty sure if iI secretely turboed my car my dad would do the same thing. What is with dads not allowing 17 year olds to drive turbo miatas?:jerkit:

Braineack 06-03-2008 12:44 PM

and fwiw, next time your ever post a "no more thread" and you dont have a picture like this:

Your dad is just keeping you safe, or trying to at least.

+1 on just go the store and getting a new fuse. But only take the car out when he wont notice its missing.

Here's another "no more miata" picture. I learned my lesson after this one. :bang:

Whoa there buddy. I may be ugly, but at least I ain't got no money!

HKSturboMiata 06-03-2008 01:01 PM

I first put my turbo on when I was 18 and my dad was pissed because he thought my car was making a flushing noise. I have a super loud knock-off turboXS bov

Oh yea and the puddles of oil that were appearing under my car.

I dont understand this just on the fact that, how is he gonna learn Uber Epic safe driving skills by not driving? That and the fact that the day he turns 18 he doesn't magically mature more than he is currently. Just like you dont stay the same height all year then the day of your birthday shoot up 5 inches taller than the day before. So I dissagree with the OPs father. I say buy a new fuse and get a new key cut and drive it. But only when he won't notice, he can still kick you out.

y8s 06-03-2008 01:18 PM

my dad wouldn't take it away from me, he'd just steal it for himself.

when he got his mr2 turbo he kept begging me to turn up the boost for him... lowel.

Pitlab77 06-03-2008 01:19 PM

go buy the fuse. Problem solved

How dense are your fucking parents that they didn't notice a stream of UPS/FedEx boxes coming to their house, and all of a sudden you're wrenching under the hood a whole lot?

Apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I suppose.

Doppelgänger 06-03-2008 02:16 PM

Well, when you slide sideways down a bit of a hill and one of your wheels digs halfway into the mud at the bottom.... it'll do the trick. See the dirt on the wheel? That's how far it dug in :(

What a fucking waste.. That jerkoff should've been crushed by that car. :jerkit::vash:

elderc 06-03-2008 04:06 PM

p51hellfire, Is the car in your name or your DADs ? if its in his name (the car is his on paper ) be greatfull all he took was the fuse. But it still stinks you can't drive to work.

cueball1 06-03-2008 04:33 PM

If turning 18 = getting the car back...

Does it also = kicked out of house? Paying your own bills - rent, insurance, gas, college, food, etc?

Turboing your car behind dad's back cost you a month of driving. If you turn 18 and are still on the dole - you came out pretty good. Don't push it by putting the fuse back in.

cardriverx 06-03-2008 04:53 PM

lol, the miata looks sooo sadd...

Whats that saying "its always better to ask for foregiveness, rather than ask for permission." apparantly you are already in this position...

Wire the wastegate open, and show him how slow the car "still is" even with the turbo.

Might get your wheels back.

Goodluck

Toddcod 06-03-2008 05:55 PM

I don't know your dad. But mine might would of put a forsale sign on it. One month of setting to have a turbo. That's nothing.

Apparently you have spoken to your dad about this too know you can't have it till your 18. I wouldn't push the issue.
He may calm down after a little bit.
It doesn't matter how stupid you act on fixing it. If he pulled the fuse. He can pull the keys, and you'll drive a Kia.

Sorry that is kinda funny. Sucks to be 17.
Everytime my 17 yr/old brother gets out of line we threaten pulling his keys. Lol.

Drewkeen 06-03-2008 06:06 PM

Kia > N/a Miata

Bingo. It has less to do with keeping you safe and more to do with you not sending your parents into financial ruin. My stepfather did a similar thing to my stepbrother when he wrecked his third car at the ripe old age of 17. Didn't matter that my stepbrother bought the cars in his name either; parents are still legally liable for the actions of their minor children. Stepdad pulled the distributor rotor so it wouldn't start, and stepbro wasn't bright enough to figure it out! He was carless for over two months before he turned 18. Hell, at least you get points for figuring out what was wrong.

This is the BEST idea by far, have a talk with him, tell him you understand where's he's coming from, and how you are slowly/safely adding power little by little. Let HIM drive it, then YOU dirve it with him, and after he calls u a dumbass for wasting all that money for hardly any power he'll feel so bad he'll never bug you again...
The convo should be you convincing him how its about learning how to fix/work on your car...NOT going fast...;)

Scuba_Steve 06-03-2008 06:24 PM

Reminds me of when I was 16 and found a 65 Impala SS convertable with a 427 dropped in it. My Dad refused to sign for the car (even though I was paying), he said I would kill myself in it.

I wound up with a 64 ford 6 cylinder with a 3 on the tree. Given how stupid I was with that car, he was probably right, I'd be dead if I had bought the other one for my first car.

I wanted an MG Midget. I know not fast but I was gonna be going for the twisties. I would have killed myself in it. Dad said no. Glad he did

ChairFaceChippendale 06-03-2008 07:46 PM

i think if i had a turbo anything at 18 i would have killed myself. it's not like being alive an extra 30 days is going to give you amazing driving skills, but i suppose i can see where he is coming from. me being me now i wouldn't push the issue. at 18 i probably would have.

you could always just swap in an unimportant fuse.

ApexOnYou 06-03-2008 07:57 PM

This reminds me of a guy that bought a '09 Evo X from my work for his son a few months back...

...his son is 16.

If I had a Evo at 16, I would be dead right now, I did enough dumb shit in my Oldsmobile.

bryantaylor 06-03-2008 08:06 PM

the poster needs banned for just being a whinny bitch. just wait it out for a month, your a 17 yr old kid, do what your parents tell you too and quit being such a punk ass.

Saml01 06-03-2008 08:11 PM

Stupid parenting if you ask me. Youre 17 for gods sakes.

Youre dad should be more concerned about you boning girls, not what you do with your car in your free time.

macker 06-03-2008 09:00 PM

Nothing useful to add.

Just gotta say, that after being pissed off nearly the whole day, this made me laugh.

Being 17: Free
Turbo kit for your 'gay car', to earn back some respect: $2000
Having your Dad pull the fuse, after he finds out: Priceless

P.S. Why is it I remember Terminator as being way cooler, then when I watch it, I have this knee-jerk of "oh, yeah, that was sooo cheesey..". But hey, it does have the Governator.

patsmx5 06-03-2008 09:03 PM

Your parents know you better than anyone on this forum. I'll even bet they care more about your well being than anyone on this forum. They're likely looking at your maturity and responsibility level now and deciding not to let you drive the car for a month. A hundred people on this forum might blindly disagree with their actions given your age alone, but that doesn't mean shit.

Saml01 06-03-2008 09:54 PM

So howd you come up with your handle anyway?

Everyone that knows me in real life knows i am the shit and that i fuck tons of hoes and that my dick is huge and that i get swole in the gym and that i am a COCKY MOTHERFUCKER and i get away with it. As long as people that know me IRL know this, I am content. I don't give a shit what anybody on this site says or thinks. I will be back with proof whenever i feel like maxing out again and it will probably be more than 465.

kotomile 06-04-2008 03:41 PM

^ lol

My dad took me autocrossing when I was 17, and bought me my first set of Hoosiers.

Savington 06-04-2008 03:51 PM

My dad bought an FD Rx7 in 2000 or 2001, and he told me I would never drive it alone. When I bought my car, it was still that way. Then I put the suspension and such on my car, and we started tracking it together, and he was a little more lenient.

Then I turbocharged it, and now it scares him. He recently traded the FD on an E46 M3, and he asked me if I wanted to trade keys with him to see how the M3 stacked up. (slow  )

samnavy 06-04-2008 04:32 PM

Smart move on the Dad's part.
While the kid is 17, everything he does the parents are liable for.

When my 16yr old sister let her 15yr old stoner friend borrow her '88 Sentra, the girl put 5 people in and tried to turn a residential street-corner at about 50mph and ploughed into a Nissan pickup. Nobody was seriously hurt except the driver who left the scene and walked home. That's right, SHE fled the scene of an accident she caused... since she was 15, unlicences, and unisnsured, there wasn't a single charge she could be hit with.

The girls parents took our insurance company to court and won big... then took my parents to civil court and won big (homeowners insurance covered it). Everything was my sisters fault cause she was older and gave the younger girl the car.

Anything your kid does until the day he/she turns 18 is your fault in civil court.

kotomile 06-04-2008 04:53 PM

I look at this whole situation the same way I look at the guns in the home issue. Rather than keep the gun away from the kid until they're an adult, show him/her how to use it, get familiar with it, but most of all teach them to respect it and the damage it can do if mishandled.

So it should be the same for the fast Miata. Rather than pulling your fuse, maybe your dad could enroll you in a good defensive driving course, or take you racing. Pulling the fuse is a lot easier and less expensive, but not necessarily effective. I know I wouldn't have let it stop me if I was 17.
