Dunno about you guys, but I feel exactly the opposite.

Driving my miata n/a makes me cry. Shifting at 2500 because there's almost no point in winding it out makes me sad.

Though I think at 200whp it would be perfect for the street, and a good compromise between fun without going to jail every other day, so in a way I kinda sorta agree.

miata2fast 02-19-2013 12:43 PM

Some people can handle a really fast street car, others can't. I was tired of the tickets and court dates.

y8s 02-19-2013 12:50 PM

I never got a ticket in the miata. I was pulled over once about a block from home and it was too short a distance for the cop to get any data.

BUT

I don't like the way the car breaks traction and goes all wopperjaw when I go over undulations at full throttle in 3rd gear at highway speeds. Shit like that makes people dead fast.

Honestly I think the 4-door beater project may be a lost cause. My wife reminded me that I was miserable with a project car and no garage and ultimately it's probably smart to just do nothing until I can save up for something that doesn't require labor intensive wrenching to make reliable and awesome.

That may take a while.

oh and for hustler: lets not fool ourselves. I don't drive on the track.

She is 100% correct.

Sounds like you need a garage first. I would agree with that order of priority. Really, I've only recently gotten back into serious wrenching. Last time was when I was young and had the base hobby shop at my disposal. Now I finally have a big four car garage with air, etc.

Spend time with your kids. You'll be back. ;)

y8s 02-19-2013 02:01 PM

can't afford a garage --> no project cars

Y8s sells his car, Vash is contemplating selling his, and Hustler is building a non turbo one....What the hell is going on here?

They saw how cool I was when I got rid of my Miatas and couldn't help themselves.

here's some:

I felt cramped in it
I couldn't drive my kid around in it
The weather here is not black-miata-friendly (too hot or too cold)
It was too easy to want to get into big trouble on public roads

Sure it's a fun car and fast like whoa, but really I've reached a part of my life where having a highly modified impractical car is less fun than not having to worry about it. It had become a liability so off it went.

Pretty much all the same reasons I got rid of mine. It was just time to move on. I had just gotten into a motorbike accident and had to use the miata as a daily. I was on the highway driving home at night when an Audi 4S decided to have some fun. Looked down and I was doing well over double the highway speed... yeah, I realized then that it was time. I can see picking up another miata in the future as a track only vehicle. Hopefully the owner you sold it to is competent and appreciates the car.

Cycle of life? Global rebalancing? MiataTurbo.net is turning in to NoMiataNoTurbo.net?

Same but my pull over was related to 'oh sorry, I couldn't see your license plate in the window'.

This comes down to restraint in rough areas or cold pavement, doesn't it (not criticizing)? I think I know what you mean though.

My wife is encouraging this line of thought, her suggestion is MS3 or WRX as a dd and leave the miata as is. We're having a kid soon and she's sad that she won't get to ride in the car with me much but suggests we keep it anyways.

y8s 02-22-2013 04:07 PM

if I want restraint, I'll buy a slower car with better traction!

18psi 02-22-2013 04:11 PM

I love driving a fast car very slowly and calmly, and just KNOWING that it has a metric buttload of power that I can unleash at will.

The answer is the WRX (or derivative), they fit kids seats but they're just not on the cheap end of things.

18psi 02-22-2013 05:08 PM

he doesn't want a wrx cause its not gay like a mini cooper

timk 02-22-2013 05:17 PM

This thread needs less sad, and more funny cat pics.

jamesr242 02-24-2013 12:58 PM

I always regret selling vehicles... Especially bikes and cool cars such as the miata. Hopefully I never have to sell mine!
