Ummm Flyin Miata has a PDF link on their site to a full size template you're supposed to use to notch the area for turbo install.. You download it, print it, cut it out and trace it with a marker...all before cutting the notch.

If you clean that up and cut replacement metal, I will weld it in for you with only a minor wallet raping. You could buy my Carbing bar at the same time ;)

Welding in new metal is the only way as said before... In for information on cutting tool!

+1 on what tool/tools did that. I'll give it to you, there certainly was plenty of effort to produce carnage on that scale.

OK time for the most embarrassing part of my initial turbo install. (photo from first post) That is the frame rail. I "notched it" to install the GT3071. It was like, 2am, I had been installing my kit for about 3 weeks and i wanted the fucking thing to go in. I couldn't get the assembled manifold/turbo to fit onto the cylinder head studs. So I went out and got a sawzall and hacked until it fit in nice and easy. Then I got a hammer and beat on it. If I had known anything I would have just got a huge ass pry bar and pushed the engine a bit or taken the studs out or assmebled the turbo/mani once in the car etc etc etc. |
After walking out and looking at my car that area isn't near as big as it looks in the pics.
I can also see it being done with a few quick sawzall passes and some bashing. Doesn't look *too* important structurally...but it will be a rust magnet. I would try and clean it up now that the rest of your setup is installed and working right. |
Geez did you use TNT as a metal working tool?
That Mouse fix looks good. I suppose _ANY_ turbo fits after that? |

btw- Any idea if those subframe studs/bolts are welded to those tubes (sleeves) on the inside? Or does it look like they just run through the sleeves? |
