Default Oil cooler restrictions

I have a Mocal sandwich plate with thermostat. I know the design allows oil flow to bypass the cooler until operating temperatures are reached. What I want to know is if these sandwitch plates still allow some bypassed flow after the thermostat is fully open, or if all flow is forced through the oil cooler.

My first attempt at a miata oil cooler had all flow forced through the remote oil filter and oil cooler. The pressure drop was huge. I would like a system that allows bypass flow if the oil cooler becomes too restrictive.

How about a system with an oil cooler that isn't restrictive?

I am planning on using the rx-7 oil cooler with -8 lines, which should be significantly better than what I was using originally (tiny supra oil cooler). I am still trying to figuire out how the sandwich plate bypass flow works.

I would like to try the -8 lines and fittings for now since I already have everything I need. I oil pressures arn't worth a crap due to restrictions I would be willing to go up to -10.
