I just fitted my oil pump to my rebuilt bottom end.

The oil pump had a gasket and a o ring. I put the o ring in the pump then offered up the gasket. The gasket actually covers the o ring soooo

The o ring seals to the gasket
The gasket seals to the block

I applied a thin bit of sealant on the pump then put the o ring in and put a little sealant on top of that to seal it to the gasket, then sealant on the block and torqued it all up

Is this correct?

Seems odd that the o ring seals to a gasket.

 

I did not get a gasket on the oem gasket kit on my last two rebuilds, only got an o-ring and put the pump with the gray silicone between it and the block
