2) Send me one coil, I'll measure its required dwell vs. battery voltage, as well as its output energy/voltage.

If I was in your shoes I would just drill the valve cover for mounting studs.

I may. If I turn them more at an angle that could easily be done. Only thing I worry about is it leaking oil. But it would probably be fine.

Pat, Did you drill/tap for studs or throw bolts from the bottom up to the top. Looks nice either way!

Looks great, except for the fact that you have one bolt that is not the same length as the others.

Yeah they are bolts. They're actually all the same length, but that one catches something on the bottom and needs to be longer to match the others. Problem is the bolts aren't gonna "stay" when I take the nuts off, so I'm gonna have to do something to.... convince them to. :)

Where's the JB-Weld.....

Just dab a little JBweld at the bottom of the stud and thread on another nut. Done.

could put a nut on the top of the valve cover but below the jb weld to hold the nut still. Then put the cop onto the bolt/stud and another nut on top to hold the cop down.

Sounds good, but it won't work because of the weird shape of the valve cover. For now, I'm gonna JB them from the top and bottom. Probably do the tops twice to get it built up, then sand it down to blend the studs into the cover. With sanding and paint, it will appear to be a casting with a stud pressed into it. We'll see. If it sucks, I've lost nothing. It's not going on the car till this summer at the soonest.

Dont make more work from yourself, jbweld them from the bottom and forget about it. Once the cop is bolted it on, you can forget about it. The only reason you need to JBweld it is so it doesnt fall under the valve cover if you take the cops off, not to contend with the awesome load of holding a cop down.

Yeah, I could try that easy enough. JB one from the bottom and let it cure, then remove the cop and see how tough they are. If I can't break them twisting and pulling on the cop with 1 bolt in it, then it will probably be fine.

Have you considered a retention washer from your local hardware store? (Something similar to what they use on seatbelt components...)
