Please help!!!! Car runs too rich!

Picked up a turbo'd miata a few weeks ago. My Intake was looped around between the block and fans, afm didn't like that so I moved it with flexy intake tuning from orileys next too the master cylinders. After the first fire up my car wouldn't idle, so coworker popped open the afm told me I busted it tried fixing it and he broke it even more he patched it to get me home. Car ran super rich and wouldn't go over 2k... Picked up a new one today from a junk yard installed it car fired up and sounded good. Let it warm up and took it for a drive got food fired it up again and made a glubbing sound almost sounded cammed and all I could smell was fuel and car kept back firing (more than usual)

any one have any clue I'm confused and its my daily

thirdgen 01-09-2013 01:52 AM

Lean it out, skirt.

thirdgen 01-09-2013 01:54 AM

Or you could start by telling us what fuel management you're using. Or more detail about said car.

Turblowdmiata 01-09-2013 01:59 AM

Stock ecu pos narrow band 1.6 no fuel management running low boost till I have enough for a mega squirt and I don't drive it hard

thirdgen 01-09-2013 08:36 AM

Vacuum leaks??

And this is why you dont fuck with a daily if you have no clue what the fuck you're doing.

dustinb 01-09-2013 10:40 AM

I'd suggest putting it back the way it was... Maybe you could post a before & after picture of your engine bay.

Disconnect wastegate arm. What makes you think you can run ANY boost without fuel management? Do you even have an 02 clamp?

Renesis 18:12 "Fuckest thou not with thine daily driver when thou hast neither a vessel to piss into nor a window through which to cast it"

First engine management, then turbo.

You are doing it wrong.

Turblowdmiata 01-09-2013 03:41 PM

Fair enough I'm saving for fuel management at the moment ran into some money issues and yes I'm aware not to fuck with my daily but I need it to be running right and don't know why it's running like it is

Miater 01-09-2013 04:12 PM

Flapper style meters need to be set up level. If the flapper has to over come gravity, not good. If gravity is holding it openish, not good.

Braineack 01-09-2013 04:56 PM

if you open up the afm and break it, not good.

Miater 01-09-2013 05:01 PM

If 1.6 not good either, but I'm sure you know that.

Also check timing, because 1.6

Turblowdmiata 01-09-2013 07:20 PM

Ill check the timing and the flapper could be why appreciate it new afm idled fine after first fire up then when I restarted it it turned to shit... It was a little dirty when I put it in also I try cleaning it an putting it back where it was see if it fixes anything

If it sounds cammed or like a Subaru boxer engine, it's probably not running on all four cylinders, due to either the plugs or the injectors. This has nothing to do with the AFM, sounds like a different issue altogether.

Start by removing all the turbo stuff, replace when MS is installed and working.

Turblowdmiata 01-10-2013 12:55 AM

I'm starting to get the idea it's not a afm issue now haha I'm thinking the timing got messed up have to bring it to my work in the morning and check it out I don't think it's firing on all of the cylinders either I will probably get a ms in 4-6 weeks after I get the money for it I know I need one I don't drive the car hard or far live 4 miles from work and don't really go anywhere else

Appreciate the help guys hopefully I get it figure out soon

curly 01-10-2013 04:30 AM

Seriously, use a period or two. Don't care if you're "just" a mechanic.

Timing won't make it run on two cylinders I can't tell you blend your thoughts together you don't use periods if that's what you meant.

sixshooter 01-10-2013 07:40 AM

Does the crankshaft pulley wobble even slightly when it is running? There is a particular 1.6 problem with "short nose" crankshafts which can be serious. It also screws with your ignition timing.

Running 3-4lbs of boost under a full throttle with only stock fueling will cause lean detonation and crack piston rings/ringlands. Did you check the plugs for fouling? Compression test?

Turblowdmiata 01-10-2013 10:22 AM

I will check for fowling! Pretty sure compression is still good ill check that aswell!

I will gladly admit I'm no mechanic. I'm an 18 year old kid who works at a shop as a safety inspector. Dosnt mean I'm not afraid to get down and work on my car.

dustinb 01-10-2013 10:36 AM

Please post pic of your engine bay. Might be able to gleam some information from it. Also I see you are trying to buy injectors... don't think that's your problem at the moment.

I kinda feel bad about being an ass in this situation, but we really have so little to go on...

krissetsfire 01-10-2013 02:08 PM

I know it's your daily and it's dramatic to have car issues. Chilllll brosephina. Don't just start messing with shit. That's how you got where you are now. It's fine to get your hands dirty but you know how you lost your prized diamond encrusted unicorn pendant and the last place you remember having it was the porta potty? Don't dive in before you check your shirt breh! It was on your popped collar the whole time.

Take a deep breathe. What are we working with here. What year? What turbo and turbo parts are you using? is there an fmu? How many miles? What kind of maintenance records? How old are your plug or plug wires etc... Tell us everything you know about the car.

Turblowdmiata 01-10-2013 02:33 PM

I did get injectors and do have them installed just to make sure I'm running rich. It's misfiring on 2 cylinders it a completly unrelated issue than the afm. Ill take a look at it later this evening and post pictures when I get a chance I know I need fuel management it's coming soon!

dustinb 01-10-2013 02:35 PM

So what size of injectors did you install?

Turblowdmiata 01-10-2013 02:39 PM

Fmu is on the way NGK plugs pretty new had NGK wires one messed up a few weeks ago random arching. Picked up a new set of wires it's a gt2554r turbo turbo genie exhaust new vaccuum lines msd boost retarder spearco inter cooler SARD bov and red top 1.8 injectors rebuilt motor not sure what's in it though traded a 800$ civic for this car

sixshooter 01-10-2013 04:29 PM

So you changed injectors without pulling and checking your plugs for wetness? Interesting choice.

krissetsfire 01-10-2013 04:29 PM

so you have no o2 clamp, no fmu, no aftermarket ecu, a turbo. did the turbo come with the trade and was on the car? this is so fael.

/quit

krissetsfire 01-10-2013 04:33 PM

dafdsfsfdsf whatever.

BakerNa 02-06-2013 10:54 AM

Put the 1.6 injecters in. Your stock computer is dialed for the 1.6 injectors and putting bigger injectors
In running on the stock ecu will cause you to run rich.

TalkingPie 02-06-2013 01:43 PM

Hold on a sec. You're complaining of the car running rich and then dumped in bigger injectors?

How about instead of changing parts without thinking, you take a second and reflect upon what's going on here? When did the problem start? What has changed? Find out, and then change that back. If you have - or can get - the parts to do so, the obvious answer is to take the turbo off and put everything back to stock. Nothing good will come from running a turbo on your current setup, and lots of bad likely will.

Or you can prod around a bit more without thinking about WTF you're doing until you blow the engine.

concealer404 02-06-2013 01:53 PM

Nice bump.

Now i'm mad i read this bullshit. Thought it was new.

BakerNa 02-06-2013 03:29 PM

Yea its never good to get someone elses project.
Especially if its fi'd. I would do more research on
Force induction and buy a standalone like ms3
before you ruin that motor.
