Default Prep for Boost?

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the world of Miatas. I just got my hands on a 92 NA 1.6 about 2 months ago. I have so far put new Mishimoto radiator hoses, new upper and lower control arms, and pretty soon Ill be replacing brake pads & rotors all the way around. I am looking to prep my car for boost. Obviously it will be a very mild amount (6-8psi) just to get my feet wet, is there anything that I should upgrade first before starting? This is my first time on a forum so take it easy on me. Thanks a bunch guys!

The best place to start is eBay. Typically the pros like to find a random OEM turbo that has a weird flange and then build everything around that. Also consider trying to tune with some older RX7 injectors and some typed power card or 5th injector set up. the 1.6 you have is considered the best engine to boost because it is rev happy.

Part of my sad story. You better learn how to use search or you'll be flamed to hell. Read a lot.

Things to upgrade before boost?

1. Your level of understanding (Not being mean). Spend a few months reading on this forum at a minimum.

2. Your rear differential is bad and you don't know it yet. The 1 .6 differentials fail at stock power levels with regularity. Swapping to a 1.8 diff also requires new CV axles.

3. Stock 1.6 clutch is useless.

4. 1.6 engines have a host of shortcomings that are often more difficult and expensive to overcome than simply finding a junkyard 1.8 motor.

5. Read the sticky thread on this topic.

Not only this, but the flywheel has less surface area than the 1.8, so you should upgrade to a 1.8 flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch combo when you replace the clutch

This, plus the 1.8. Then you will be ready for a megasquirt.

ID1000s, MS3 Pro, 949 Twin Disc clutch, Trackspeed EFR kit, Xidas, 15x9 6ULs, or may as well throw your car in the trash.
