actually mine wasn't a BFH. Just used ye olde ball peen hammer, clamped the carrier to a vise and pounded away.
|
Yeah, I just followed the instructions in the shop manual, drilled the rubber out and then pounded with a BFH™. 'Course, I wasn't trying to re-use them :)
|
Why don't you just interchange the rear housings of the Miata and the Rx7 diff during the Swap?
10min job |
If he's upgrading from a 1.6L diff., that option wouldn't work.
|
Did you get them out yet? I never knew they were so hard to move, my friend did his, and never mentioned anything about dificulty
|
I had one of aluminum bushings made.
http://russmarshall.com/v/cars/cmc7/...shing.JPG.html Might convey a bit more road noise, but in my case it didn't matter. Prevented the arm from differential breaking again. hrk |
Haven't had a chance yet, work and all...Half day tom so I'll try then.

Well I got the old rx7 ones out.
I torched them to get the rubber out then found a pipe that fit inside and beat the living fuck out of it with my rbfh, eventually came out. Now its just a matter of getting the old miata ones out of their housing and into the rx one. |
I cut mine with a sawzall flush with the casting and left them in. Worked fine.

I compared the two housings and realized that to my eye the only difference was the length of the center aluminum tube. A few minutes with a saw and the problem was solved. I'm not saying this is the right way to do it but it worked well for me. |
hey at least your lower A arm bolts weren't bent like mine. Those were a BITCH to get out. As was the hub bolt. I cut that with a dremel.
|
Well miata bushings came out very nicely, alittle heat to the housing and they slide right out basiclly, got them in the rx7 carrier now(pressed in my end link poly bushings while I was at it too) and now I'm off to assemble the diff and toss it in the car. Wish me luck.
|
Well the ppf bushing things on the pumkin are stuck out to far so I can't get it on..I think I'm just gonna get rid of those things, they're a pita.
