Anybody have some good, small "projects" to keep busy while I continue to stockpile the "big" parts that I can't install until I do the full swap? Currently still DD'ing my car... so it would have to be like 1-2 day projects. I'm talking like ~$100 stuff that will be helpful when it's time to start installing turbo parts..

Stuff I've already done -

- All normal maintenance has already been done recently
- New brakes/rotors all the way around & Flushed fluid
- Timing belt kit ordered

Idea's for cheaper projects -

- Install FP Cutoff switch
- Install 190lph Walbro
- Oil filter re-location

Trans fluid change
Diff fluid change
Timing bump, change back for turbo install
Detail it
Proper throttle body cleaning, use correct chemicals
Idle control cleaning
Coolant flush/reroute
Tie rod iner and outer replacement
Lower ball joint replacement
Led corner lights, because brighter
Upgrade head lights, bulbs/housings
Seam weld
Lube window tracks/replace roller

Polish the head lights, corners and tail lights. Sand off numbers/polish
Recheck all major grounding points

Replace curly clutch line with braid
Replace/rebuild slave for clutch. They are cheep but rebuild kit is cheeper and its a project
Clean out windshield washer lines
Tie the fuel cut switch into the AC fan switch, turn to 3 to start...
Poly bushing kit for control arms. More than $100 but worth soo much more than that with each drive.

Air filter
Fuel filter
Check/clean PCV valve. Goin turbo..get GTX or model made for boost
Adjust proper slack into throttle cable
New radio
Add some gauges for turbo setup, boost/vac, oil temp/pressure, wide band
Upgrade radiator, a little bit over $100, necessary in the end
Clean and condition weather seals, windows, rain channels on A-piler, rain channel for rear of top, trunk seals, rear fender rain exits from under side; clogged with leaves and junk
Clean and check tail light seals
Fuel pump
Clean and paint cam cover
Cam cover gasket
Replace worn belts
Water pump with that time belt kit?

A lot of it I realied I already did recently (Boy do I regret doing an OEM clutch with 1.6 flywheel back in October... before I decided I was going to go turbo) and some things will be done when I do my timing belt... but definitely tons of great ideas there!

I'm refinishing and painting a set of wheels for my 94. I'll be running ES next year, and I wanted some nice looking wheels, while not blowing the budget. Problem was, if I'm buying wheels, I'm buying 15x8s, and them I'm in ST*, and then I need new dampers and springs. With the refinishing project, I get to kill some time, spend little money, and my car is already perfect for ES; R package, with its' only vice being AC.

Motor mounts, clutch, wheel bearings, coolant reroute, and new brakes/fluid. At least that's what I've been up to.

Oh yeah lubing the power windows, shifter boot, new speakers, and new top but that's just to celebrate 100k of owning it.

This kind of stuff.

You will need a stronger clutch and pressure plate. You will likely need a better radiator. Check your motor mounts and wheel bearings. I recommend suspension improvements before turbocharging (sway bars, endlinks, better shocks, coilover adjusters and stronger springs).

Depower your steering rack if equipped. After suspension upgrades, get a performance alignment. Replace worn shifter bushings and rubber boots.

Install a wideband and learn to calibrate it properly. Install MegaSquirt and familiarize yourself with its operation. Install larger injectors in preparation for adding turbo and tune the MS for them.

Collect things like 3" muffler, v-band clamps for your future exhaust. Collect pipe, silicone elbows/straight pieces, intercooler, and t-bolt clamps for your future system. Mock it up and install your GM IAT in it. Tap your pan for a turbo return drain and acquire tubing rated for hot engine oil.

Mild wire tuck (delete charcoal canister, tuck diagnostics box, misc ****. Delete cruise control (who uses this on a turbo car anyways? does it even work correctly with the added power?), etc.

Does anyone have cruise control on their DD turbo car? I was thinking of retrofitting one eventually, as I miss it on long drives.

My cruise stopped working when I added MS. I didn't investigate why, but used it as an excuse to remove it, though I originally thought of keeping it. My purpose for the car becomes more track-centric as the days pass.

I'm going to try and use my CC with the turbo. I need it. Pretty sure the actuator works off vacuum so I was gonna use a vacuum reservoir.

Yeah Im not touching my suspension... because i'm a stubborn idiot. LOL I want more power, even if I know the car can't plant it to the ground. By the time I have all of my turbo parts, I will have a 09' Corlla to DD (Currently my fiancee's car). I will work on the suspension after the turbo set-up is sorted out. I just ordered my turbo this morning, so I am super stoked about that!

Just to fill everyone in... here are my plans for my set-up

Goal - Only 200-250hp
*Stock 1.6 (I know...I know)
*Godspeed T28 (Same exact turbo dustinb used, with great success)
*Full ARTech set-up (This is the next stuff I will be ordering, probably by late March)
-Side mount manifold (Retaining Ps/Ac)
- Downpipe
- Full exhaust
- Water/Oil lines
*Precision Intercooler/ E-Bay universal plumbing kit
*Aluminum Radiator
*LC1 wideband
*Brain built MS
*ID 725cc Injectors
*FM Happy meal clutch

After all this stuff, I will be swapping to a torsen and also working on the suspension/ wheels. Also, I just did a brand new OEM clutch (DOH!) in October.e This was before I decided to progress with going turbo... I wish I had just went for the 1.8 clutch... Would have felt a little bit better. I will do the Happy Meal once the OEM clutch gives out. I wonder how long it will hold 200hp lol


I need around $1500 for the ARTech stuff alone... I'm more than half way saved up for that stuff, so I am getting pretty stoked! I want to buy all of my hard parts first (Anything that really can't go out of date). If I buy stuff like MS and Injectors last... i wont be buying anything out-dated as far as electronics go, and these parts will still be under warranty if anything goes wrong with them lol.

First set of projects for this weekend...

4 wheel brake job
Oil change
Diff fluid change

I already did the Diff fluid change in October, but I have an entire drum of Subaru Extra-S from when I had my Wrx, so I will continue to change it every 3 months or so. I want my VLSD to last as long as possible because I dont want to have to buy a Torsen just yet haha
