Default Questions about possible manifold and dp change

Hey guys so I have Begi's cast manifold and begi-s downpipe and was thinking about replacing with a nice ss manifold with an ewg and getting a bigger diameter dp as well. I just ran my car at Begi's dyno day and ran 241hp at 9.75psi on a rough tune and want more of course. I also have ac and power steering and that seems to limit my options if I were to have one built. Not sure if the benefits will outweigh cost though. My spool at the moment is awful and I have a garrett actuator waiting for me at my house to see if that helps but if not it seems that either I put a restrictor in my intake/exhaust or go ewg. Thanks for your guys input!

The real questions is- Why do you feel the need? What are your ultimate goals? No need for big power with that damn 4.3 rear lol. Get at least a 3.9 first. If I had my way, I jsut switch to a better trubo..like the GTX 2863.....

blingo!

Well I know that my 4.3 isn't ideal but until I find a good deal on another it'll work. I would like to have 5-6 hundred horsepower from a v8 but since I don't have the big stack of cash and time to throw it down I can slowly build a better and better turbo set up until that point. Main reason I am considering this is because of my terrible boost creep. If the garrett actuator helps then ill /thread but if it doesn't then it seems ewg is the only worthwhile way. I was thinking about maybe drilling into the cast manifold and welding some weld els and an ewg flange on just like Begi's cast ewg. Then I could probably make a 3" downpipe with the help of my father for the welding/pipe bending skills.

Off topic but hows the fitment with people's 3" downpipes?

Port the wastegate if you're having boost problems. I was having them when I got my new turbo and ordered a new houst housing from BEGi and had them port it. Never had a problem with my IWG setup and creep since then...and running 14psi on a 2560R. IIRC BEGi does it for free/nearly free.

I was kidna joking about the 4.3....but am half serious. I don't thinkg you have a problem nearly breaking even doing a sell/trade for that 4.3. You'll be much happier with longer gears.

When I first got my setup it was overboosting to my 15psi overboost with no signs of stopping so I ported it via begi's instructions and now the peek boost is 9.75 but the problem is how long it takes to get there. I should be reaching max boost with my tiny turbo at 3000 or so but I'm at like 5 or 6psi at 5500 rpm and it creeps up throughout. And I agree on probably breaking even on the 4.3. It's just as this is my only car I can't really pop it off at the moment.

if you dont have the cash to do it right, don't do it.
if you do..well...then go big or go home. full artech or absurdflow tubular, 3" all the way back, ewg, the works.

and it definitely seems like something is wrong with your setup: no way should a 2560 be spooling that slow on a 1.8

You're running a GT2560 and you made 241hp at 9.75psi?
Is that at the wheels???
With a cast manifold????

I'm running a Shanghai-s kit with the cast manifold and the t25/28 chinacharger comparable to a gt2854 which I believe is in between a 2554 and a 2560? and it was at the wheels. It was a bell engineering dyno day.

Edit: Kris I would love an Artech dp but I wouldn't love the price tag

even with a log a 2560 on a 1.8 should have plenty of torque down low.

edit: ahh gt2854 shouldn't be tooo much diffeither.

They are rx7 460cc. And I can make a lot more torque when I get it dyno tuned because I have a super rich spot at about 4k when my turbo is almost all spooled up that robs me of it. Also I'm not at very high boost at low rpm. I'll see if I can find the dyno chart...

Ok the spool might not be assss bad but the awful richness makes it seem that way

240rwhp @ 10psi with 2560 is on par with a good setup. If your tune was 'rough', you should be able to pick up even more and be happy. I was at 245 @ 9 with my tubular BEGI replacement mani and full 3" exhaust (IWG).

Spool shouldn't be a problem with any manifold on a 1.8 and the 2560. Focus on the actuator first.

Have you checked for boost leaks? It's easy enough to build a tester if you've got access to an air compressor. A boost leak will really kill spool.
