Indeed I did.

Here it is, for your viewing pleasure:

I bet xenon light output is at least twice as bright.

I also don't think anything with a solid cutoff line should be mounted in the popups. I completely replaced and reset my rubber stoppers and refreshed the ball joints on the linkage arm and I still wasn't able to completely eliminate the bounce. It looks like you're trying to fast-honk the high beams to oncoming traffic. No bueno.

I went with the FX-R's because I had installed them in my previous car, which was hit and written off. I was able to pull my previous retro for that apart and save the projectors. Then it was just the fun task of making them fit.

@MetalMuffins, care to contribute? I think @Godless Commie did some sort of conversion as well, before the Mini's came out.
I'm just checking to see if I have any pictures from when I did them. My old phone died so I need to see if my last backup had the build pic's. I'll put some sort of update in that build thred with whatever I can find.

So, with a clean sheet, the Mini would be the preferred option?

To be honest if I were going to do another set today, I would be using the Mini D2S 4.0 hands down. The light output from them is as good if not better then the FX-R 3.0, and the install on them would be dead simple as they can simply be threaded into the buckets of the NB1's H4 bulb seat.

I looked high and low and I unfortunately don't have any pictures of my build to show exactly how I installed the FX-R projectors. I'll draw up a few MS Paint masterpieces with an explanation as to how I did mine. I think it's the "easiest" way of fitting something like the FX-R or another OE projector into these lights.

guys do you on the other side of the world have Phillips racing vision bulbs ? if so, get them. They do not look like **** (read. uber modern rice stuff on old car) and they shine like crazy. Trust me, I know how great lights work - they are not on the level of the new mercedes uGLE, but they works briliant. only downside is that they only last like 200hours or so.

There's absolutely nothing to hit in Nebraska. Maybe a cow.

Any real-world idea as to whether these headlights suck?

I'll let you know in a week or so. Morimoto is a decently well known brand. And my friend has the ebay version of them, and likes them.

I'm familiar with Morimoto, but leery of aftermarket headlights in general.

Me too, but anything is better than the 90's sealed beams.

If they are horrible I'll sell em and go with hella e-codes.

I ordered a set to compare to the whdz7 im currently running

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019I0UBLU?vs=1

The morimoto is ugly as ****. It looks hideous in a miata. That being said, the beam pattern is a lot nicer than the reflector type whdz7 which tends to cast some hot spots. The high beams are good, but the whdz7 edges out slightly in intensity but again probably because of hot spots.

If there's any interest, I can try to take photos , since I'm running one of each right now for comparison but I had difficulty finding a secluded non illuminated wall.

Bottom line. Morimoto is more refined from the driver seat , but looks like **** aesthetically. They do have a glass lens which is superior to the whdz7's polycarbonate lenses. I may keep them in. But damn they are ugly.

If you keep the morimotos hit me up about the whdz7, my truck needs lights.

I'll clean the lenses up a bit and can send them with the solenoid . Sorry, hectic.

Will snap some day shots tomorrow . Then night shots in evening.
