Rear defrost switch for EBC to MS use...
So I have my console out right now and my stereo, I want to use my rear defrost button so I can switch EBC between the MS since I no longer have rear defrost. There are 3 wires coming off the button...pink, black, and whiteish gray. My goal was to have the switch still light up when I push it, but it it doesn't light that's fine. What 2 wires do I splice into? When I test for continuity I get it at the pink to white wires with the button either on or off. When I try either the white or the pink to the black wire, I get no continuity in either position of the button. I tried it igniton on and off too. So what wires do I use?

Translation: it's not just a dumb switch, but you can still use it. You get a closure between grey and black when the switch is depressed. There is a diode in there, so current can only flow one way, with grey being (+) and black being (-). Pink is power for the LED, which is internally current-limited and also reverse-bias protected. So if you apply +12 to pink and ground black, the LED should come on when you press the switch. In this configuration, you will only be able to use the other contact (grey) as a closure to ground. |
I knew if anybody would reply with useful information, it would be you. Thanks!

So why is it that when I hold my probes from my ohmeter to the gray and the black, I never get continuity with the button in either position? I mean, I should get it with the button depressed, shouldn't I?
