Rollbar Install - What exactly are the "Seat belt tabs"?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone,
Before bolting in my Harddog M1 Hardtop, I wanted to make sure I have everything correct to ensure my seat belts retract once installed. The instructions given the website are kind of confusing when it comes to the seat belt tabs that need to be modified. Does someone mind circling which part I either need to trim, bend, or cut off completely? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1372044792 Also, the picture shows that hes using a dremel on the rivet. does that entire plate thing need to get removed? The car is a 91' NA, so it mentioned simply bending something, but again, not sure what that is exactly. Thanks! -Kris Instructions for reference: Seat Belt Reel and Guide Installation Instructions |
The tab that is sticking out by the s in his shirt. Bend it flat like the surrounding metal.

That's what I was thinking, but wouldn't it still stay in place since I'm bolting the small 10mm bolt back on to secure it?

That tab fits in a hole on the mounting plate. It prevents you from leaning the mechanism toward the center of the car.

Glancing at those instructions, it almost looks like there's a red line for you to cut. Mine's still there, can't remember if that tab is flat or not though. I'm honestly no help.

Flatten the tabs as stated above in post #2.
Do not reinstall the 10mm bolt, per instructions. On your '91, you do not need to cut the upper bracket off. You will need to trim the inside of the harness guide as pictured in the instructions so that the guide can turn forward again (helps the seat belt reel function as best as it can): https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1372079771 Trim each guide on the side that will contact the spacer as seen below: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1372079771 |
Welcome to the world of floppy-dick seat belt retraction...
