Now you just need to get this shit installed and running! Looks like it coming along well though. Almost makes me want to find an old BP block and start again on my next engine. Which I should probably start doing soon. I know my "only shooting for 200whp on stock block" thing wont last too long. Soon I will want 300 and the stock block just wont have any of that shit. Get er done!!!

Thats just awesome.....if it were all installed in a working car lol. GET TO IT!
|
I know I know... I'm getting there. Hopefully this weekend the engine, trans, mani/turbo/downpipe will be in the car at least.

Nice build!

Got a good start on it after work today. One of my friends came over tonight, we got the engine stand assembled, and got the block up on it.
Attachment 208011 Then got the ARP head studs, water pump, and crank assembly installed, and got the block ready for the head. Attachment 208012 Attachment 208013 Head installed and torqued. Valve cover is only sitting on it to keep crap from falling in the head. Manifold torqued down and turbo and downpipe loosely connected. Attachment 208014 Attachment 208015 Attachment 208016 |
its......................
BEAUTIFUL:eek5: good job man, keep it up. |
HURRY UP! Lookin good. I was so paranoid at this stage, scared something would fall into the head and break a spring on first start. Didnt happen. Engine is looking really good though, almost art.

Today:
My 6-speed shifter arrived. It came out of a freshly totaled MSM. Attachment 207845 In preparation for my coolant reroute, I installed a 30mm freeze plug in the head where the water neck would have gone: Attachment 207846 Installed the timing system: Attachment 207847 And loosely attached the covers (as the bolts have mysteriously disappeared out of their marked bag): Attachment 207848 That's all for the night (got off work kinda late). |
Quit work and finish the car! Coming along, slowely...

OK, here ya go. :D
I bought an FM intercooler kit (puts on flame suit for not going DIY) with the larger 19" core. Will be doing some work to make it work with A/C, but nothing I can't handle. That familiar sticker on the boxes sitting outside the door: Attachment 207573 All unpacked: Attachment 207574 Throttle Inlet Hard Pipe. The 3/8" NPT port will make reinstalling my water/meth injection seamless, especially since I have the Devil's Own outside mount nozzles now. Attachment 207575 And finally, a preview of what's to come. :D Attachment 207576 |
no need for a flame suit: if I had spare cash laying around to afford the fm silicone ic piping/intercooler I'd get them too
|
You know, I really hate you very much. I had really decided to just go ebay DIY on the intercooler, but seeing that gives me wood. I also like the idea of the silicon piping since you have a bit of wiggle room and can bend it around stuff in the way easier than you can cutting and test fitting hard tubes with couplers. Plus you dont have the chance of blowing couplers. Price is a bit high, but maybe if I find the cash I will grab one. Maybe someone will finally buy my RX7's and give me some cash.
Your intercooler kit came with an wastegate actuator... nice... |
Well, the truth is the whole time I was driving the car, I knew I wanted to do a build, so I steadily put cash away in my savings account for such a day. It ended up happening a little sooner than I had expected, but between selling off old parts, waiting for deals on new parts, and just being patient, I haven't really spent that much. The intercooler kit was actually the only splurge of the build, and yes it was expensive, but justified in my mind as it does a good job and looks clean (I wanted that aspect as well). I went with Doppelganger the other night to datalog some street pulls in preparation for our dyno day yesterday and watching the efficiency of the intercooler was really nice to see.

Hey, I know you. You're that guy from nopi nat. back in 2007.
|
Yup, I'm that guy. You took my 2nd place trophy. lol
You need to join over at MX5 Miata Atlanta Owners Club, even if you're not "metro" Atlanta. |
Nice build! Dan and his wife over at pro-cryo/evans performance are a great bunch. They've treated some transmission parts for me, but unfortunately it still blew.
