S2000 Antenna

Has anybody found a mod or self-modded their antenna to something more like the S2000 antenna? I recently suffered a bend in my power antenna and would like to make a change if possible.

Mostly, I want to know who did it and if their radio quality changed? I've seen maybe 2 posts mentioning it.

This was on the first page of a google image search for S2000 Antenna:

Looks great on there. I think I will order one right now. It's got to work better than the manually retractable bent one I have on there now. (thanks to assholes in parking lots who think it's cool to play with the antenna on somebody's car)

More research - apparently the Honda Element antenna is the same thing but doesn't have the bulging tip on it. (ahem) And also the Civic SI from earlier 2000's is the same as the Element, apparently.

I think I may just walk into Honda and ask for an Element antenna.

Heard some more chatter about the S2000 look-a-likes sucking.

Interesting. The upside is, it comes with mounting hardware, according to the write-up. Might be worth it, then just get an s2000 antenna and switch it out?

That defeats the purpose if you actually want to listen to the radio, though.

gjenks 04-23-2011 02:05 PM

Maybe he got a fancy rear window antenna...

papasmurf 04-23-2011 03:11 PM

I got an "S2000 Style" antenna. My reception dropped, but it looks better imo.

i just bought an authentic s2000 antenna from ebay, about $50 cheaper than the dealership, from a dealer posting online...so we'll see how it goes.

matthewdesigns 04-23-2011 03:22 PM

Lose it altogether like kotomile and get a hidden antenna. Powered by the usual radio output for raising a mast antenna, but powers a coil for better reception. Hide it anywhere in the car. Mine is gone, and I used a chrome blockoff cap/plug from Ace Hardware for all of 99 cents...looks better than you might think and worlds cleaner than having an antenna back there.

Hugh 04-23-2011 03:22 PM

$50 cheaper? Oh my... A thread I found said the dealers were marking them up pretty high.

Care to post a link to the ebay ad you found?

Vashthestampede 04-23-2011 03:26 PM

I shaved mine as well.

Who needs the antenna when you have an ipod/dvd/nav system in the car. lol

Dealer wanted about $170

Have the locustom Shakr2 on my GF's MSM...works great (didn't even need the amplifier) and looks good.

you sure its on there? i can barely see it.

Doppelgänger 04-23-2011 05:51 PM

It's the only picture I have where the antenna is visible, sorry. I'll go get a better one after I get off my ass.

gjenks 04-23-2011 05:53 PM

It's no biggie, if I get real close I can see it.

I used to hate that OEM "surf rod" sticking out of the car!

240_to_miata 04-24-2011 07:47 PM

ordered. This thread came at the perfect time.

sbrian2 04-25-2011 12:10 PM

I have a S2K antenna on both of my cars. The threads are not long enough for it to just screw right in, but I made a simple adapter for it. No noticable loss in reception.

Der_Idiot 04-25-2011 12:19 PM

I'm probably going to remove it and then run an antenna between the Frankenstein bolts in front of the trunk lid..

How's your reception after install?

Same as OEM

Hugh 05-01-2011 12:35 PM

Well I'll take that endorsement.

At less than a third the price? Looks like I'm getting a new antenna.

gjenks 05-01-2011 12:42 PM

anybody know how to wire the s2000 antenna? It has one wire with it, versus the 3 for the stock antenna. I would assume the black and black/white were for power, however, digging a bit further, and a blown fuse later, it would seem that's not the case. The multicolored wire blew a fuse.

Preluding 05-02-2011 08:12 AM

I used to have a s2k antenna on my 90... bought the module and everything... wiring was just a matter of wiring my old power antenna junk to it and radio reception was about the same.

On my car now...I bought a short antenna off eghey for 10 bucks and screwed it in...works the same. Kinda like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/I-Bla...Q5fAccessories

You might be able to find a universal shorty at Autozone.
