Shell weight?
 

Picking up a 99 shell later this week that's been completely stripped. Any idea what the weight of it will be? Since it's not a rolling chassis I need to plan ahead to be able to move it around the garage.

No clue, I would guess 1700 depending on how stripped it is. Also if no one knows roll that bitch on a truck scale. Oh and since it is stripped do this,

Highly doubt it will be 1700 since there is no engine/drivetrain/suspension/or anything.

Completely stripped 800-1100lbs imo

It's just a bare shell. Only the unibody with quarter panels, windshield and the gas tank.

Rumor has it that the '99 shell is lighter than the '89/'90 shell.

There's gotta be a way to turn an engine hoist into a scale

You can easily move one around on a couple of furniture dollies.

I think it is still less than that. When mine was stripped with all the glass doors and trunk lid still on it I could still lift half of it pretty easy. Two or three guys could carry it around without too much trouble.

It might come down to your definition of stripped shell however.

My guess on the empty shell is 600lbs...but Rob Harris is the one to ask there.

4-500. You could probably walk it around with three people. Our project evo's shell is light enough that three people can lift it on and off of the moving dollies and it's a 4 door so..

I moved a completely stripped shell onto a car trailer with one other guy. All we had were 2 small moving dolies to roll the rear end around on. If I had to guess I would say 350lb, 400 at max.

A few of us were able to lift it off the trailer and into the garage without any issues. Much easier than we thought it was going to be. Thanks.

Last shell that was taken down to the scrap yard weighed 400ish with absolutely nothing in it. No doors, subframes, wiring, panels etc. It was in a wreck in the front but that just moved some stuff around and didn't really mess with the weight too much. Still had the windshield though.

My '91 bare tub without a windshield weighed 466. With enough body parts to complete the outer perimeter of the body including uncut doors it was 603.

Very interesting. My stuff is always hauled off by a local scrap guy that drives around all day looking for metal. He just said it was around 400, so kudos to you for more exact figure. That is really interesting to see with the body pieces with it as well. Thanks for taking the time to post all that up.
