Dude Hustler....go to NAPA and get one of those overly-dependable LUK clutch kits...it'll hold up to your pussyfooting just fine

I dunno man, the only thing Hustler bands too often is his boyfriends face

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh snap

Three things to look at here. Size (area of friction), force (amount of force on PP), and material coeficent (Type of clutch lining). The only reasonable size increase would be the stock 1.8 flywheel. but your trade would be added weight. You can go with a 3k lbs. PP, but the pedal is gonna be much harder to push then a stock PP. and lastly the clutch lining, well this can go on all day. but if you are trying to hold x-amount of TQ. u need to decide what trado off you are willing to take for the increase in TQ. capacity. If your worried about nukeing a trans, then go with a 1.8 flywheel organic disk with a high clamping load PP. if your a track day manic 1.6 moly flywheel, 4-puck sprung hub, and a stock or stage 1 PP. The number of combo's in between would be dependent on what you what it to do. As far as breaking something, a failing clutch will probley get you home, but a broken trans or diff more likely not.

Why not just remove the clutch all together, then you can rest easy that nothing will ever break.

ScottFW 04-30-2009 12:19 PM

I might worry about shock loading with a 4-puck and solid hub, but with a 6-puck and sprung hub you should be fine assuming you know how to drive teh manuwel transmish0nz.

I don't know wtf he's so worried about.

I just wanna see him swap in a stock clutch so he can then worry about when it's gonna start slipping.

Interested in that clutch gospeed if hustler doesn't take it.

gospeed81 04-30-2009 12:31 PM

I looked it up, it's just a regular Miata clutch:

90 1990 Mazda Miata Clutch Kit Exedy Mazda Clutch Kit

PM if you're interested, has PP.

... is this thread for real? What the fuck is going on, building a 270 rwhp track miata and then wanting to run an organic disc to baby the driveline... I re-read that twice because I thought I was missing the sarcasm somehow.

1. broken car in the middle of nowhere
2. can't make it to work because I'm stranded
3a. car is stolen sitting on the side of the road
3b. massive amounts of money to get the car towed
4. irreparable damage resulting from transmission failure killing rear end too
5. a voice speaks to me in the night and I leave cars again
6. shameful reality of spending money on a car again only to destroy it or end up stolen

gospeed81 04-30-2009 12:42 PM

So which direction are you thinking of going?

And why the aversion to ACTs?

What PP do you have?

Eh never mind. If it's not going to hold more power than the stock 1.6 I don't really need it.

Buy a beater for cheap and use your alleged immense baddassery to make it reliable. Problem solved.

Why not use the new FM type II clutch set? I am about to put two of thier level two kits in my cars and the quality seem pretty good.

What I figured, pretty worthless unless you just happen to find a deal on a badass PP.

Probably the best suggestion yet...and it's PURPLE! :giggle:

Machismo 04-30-2009 01:06 PM

Drive it till it Pukes! That's what you built it for....
Now as for leaving it when it breaks....ain't happening! You break, give me a call and I'll trailer it to the house in Granbury. 12 miles from the track, and atleast you'll know it's safe.
I know you're worries.....but there is no reason to build a monster and worry about the consequences.
I made the decision a long time ago, that if I can't push it off a cliff and walk from it, I ain't racin' it.
Besides you've got the "Clown" car if the worst case scenario rears its little head. :makeout:

I had an ACT pressure plate with a few dead fingers which never gripped, and ACT refused to warranty. Also, I've attempted to help several friends extend the clutch lever all the way out and some are still on the carpet, some never fully lock up, and some work fine. Its not a risk I'm willing to take which will involve both taking the clutch back out in a futile effort to get ACT to fix it, which they won't and it will be $400 in the trash, AGAIN.

Who makes the FM clutch? If its ACT then I'm not going to deal with that bullshit again.

Braineack 04-30-2009 02:31 PM

I suggest it first.

do it dude, it's not ACT parts.
