Question So I blew my tranny, need help with a tuff decision!

First off, no, not that tranny heh.

So I was going down the highway, dropped her in 3rd, and as soon as I hit about 12 Psi, BAM. **** went crazy so I pulled over and upgraded my aaa to plus on the spot so I could get the free towing, heh.

Thought it was the diff at first, so when I got home I checked her out. Nope, not that. So I start the car, and as soon as I let the clutch out in neutral, the tranny starts making horrible horrible sounds. So not only did I blow 3rd, but the whole trans has gone to ****.

So now for the decision part. I am in college, I can so barley afford a 5 speed. So I can use all my money, buy a 5 speed, and hope it does not blow.

Or, I have an 03 Suzuki sv650 with 5k miles. I could sell it for about 3k and buy a 6 speed plus other goodies for the miata. But... I love to ride, and I dunno if I will actually get enough $ for the bike. Ugh.

So what do you think? Anyone have a 5 or 6 speed they wanna sell? Should I just go cry myself to sleep every night?

Sell the bike, buy a 6-speed and 3.63, never look back. It's worth it for "pizza mind".

What rear gear do you have in your car? If you go to a 6 speed you're not going to want anything shorter than 3.90 for a daily driven turbo car.

My old '90 tranny took quite a beating and never gave up on me. Given the power you are making (and assuming it's primarily street driven), I wouldn't think you'd expect to lose another one anytime soon. Personally, I'd just find as cheap of a 5 speed as I could get my hands on, swap it in and go.

Just a thought, do you think running a ceramic clutch helped with the distruction? Should I switch over to an organic based clutch?

Also I just realized that if I sold the bike I could have money for a track day or two...

The notion of track day money is bugging me, so I put her up on craigslist. See here:

Are you not at all paranoid about breaking the car at the track? My daily driver is down so I've been thinking about cancelling my upcoming TXMC day because breaking my track car means I can't get to work.

Keep SV. Put a few free/cheap mods in and grin everyday to school. +girls like bikes. Desnorkel and swiss cheese the air box, home brew TRE (dunno if the 650's need it), raise the tank on teflon/ big nuts for spacers, punch the pipe strait threw/cheapy can, and ebay powercommander. $100 for everything easy minus the powercommander. +swap shock oil. You will exponentially enjoy the bike more and riding it while saving for junkyard trans will be way more enjoyable and fulfil the need to tweak things during the wait. I love my SV1000s and my girl actually WON'T let me sell it to fund the motor build.

I daily my car to the track and back. I admit its not easiest thing to do, especially when you start going faster and/or the first time you go off the track. With that said, I don't mind taking it easy around the tighter tracks with less run-off. Its not a permanent solution, especially if something like a hub breaks or you crack a rotor, but it works for the time being.

Its a good point, but I think with the right mentality you don't have to tow your car down there. You can also get insurance for those times... Blabbering aside, he shouldn't be discourage from taking it to the track because its his daily.

I suppose that since I've tracked this car for 3-years without incident, I should relax too.

Can't you find a used 5 speed for like 100-150 bucks? Just bang some fat chicks for loot and keep the 2 wheeler.
