So I don't like the pop up headlight look...
I'm thinking about running some high power fogs in my Racing Beat front end.
I'm picturing simply unplug the pop up motor and run the harness down to my new fogs. I'm not a fan of the flush mount lights... looks half assed in almost every application I've seen and the sleep eye thing is still a bit too pop up for me. Anyone done this? Any recommendations on fogs based on the look of my front end? http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/2299/img1524f.jpg http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/9941/miata.png |
ask spooling. Hes done something similar.

Couldn't find a member named Spooling but a few close variations... do you know specifically his user name?

I always thought the pop-up headlights made me less of a man after dark when I turned them on. I always got severe shrinkage and none of my bro's wanted to roll with me. During the day when I turned them on, the ladies just didn't seem interested either. I really couldn't win. I had a bit of a identity crisis. I knew that headlights are critical to the whole Miata "experience". None of my NB friends could relate. Hustler stopped returning my PM's... it was a bad time.
Then I realized that nobody gives a flying fuck about headlights, and life was good again. |
Gut your turn signals and put bixenon projectors in them (like these: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=221). Then you can pull all your headlight shit out and bolt the covers in place with some creative bracketry.
Or do like samnavy said and don't give a fuck or don't drive at night. |
All real sports-cars have pop-up lights.

I think I'll actually tuck these in my side openings of my bumper. Call it a day.. If they aren't bright enough I'll toss some 5500-6000k HID's at them.

Please post in this thread the results, I have kicked around the idea (but using headlight projectors like in the link I posted) so I could gut my headlight housings all the way but I don't feel like spending all the time and money on it. If you have good results I may decide to go for it.

cspense did it. search for his thread.

I was thinking about the putting them in your bumper thing...it would be too low. The first hill you came to you wouldn't be able to see beyond the peak till you were going over it because the lights are so low to the ground.
cspense put them in his turn signals, he wants to put his driving/head lights in his bumper |
You're forgetting that you need proper height off the ground. Mount them down in the bumper holes and you'll hate life at night. Get some low-pros and add HIDs to the projectors if you hate the barndoors. Personally, I loved the amount of light I had from my e-codes + higher watt bulbs...I could see everything.

I live in a metro area where the streets are well lit. The car is driven maybe once a week anyways. I think I'll be safe and I'll throw in a single pull double throw switch to toggle between my choices of headlight.
You don't think making the car less functional/safe for no real purpose is hack-ish? If you want to mod your car, go ahead, but if the end result is worse than stock... isn't that kinda ricey? If you rarely drive the car with lights on anyway, who give a shit? Drop the money and effort into a exhaust crank evacuation system or water injection or something cool. |

So i'll just consider it three lighting options... 1: Projector fogs bright enough to do my run up and down the local city streets (typical weekend activity) 2: Regular flip up headlights for when I need to hop on the freeway 3: High beams - regular flip up's |
I was thinking or replacing the pop ups for lights flush mount. Read a lot of info about poor lighting like that though, So I was thinking of creating a LED setup and testing that out.
