Ive been reading on how to swap cloth on my soft top. Seems easy enough!
Anyone done this and is it as easy as the past threads and post say?
And how long for a rookie to wrestle one on?

It took me all day to do it but if I can anyone can. Be prepared to get into some uncomfortable positions when getting the back done and be extra careful with the rainrail if you're not going to change it! I followed m.net's explanation but in my case I found one done by some Spaniard with pics.

BTW, are you going with the plastic no zip window or are you putting on any other one?

im doing a zip out plastic( i have a hard dog m1 bar)i bought a 99 mazda replacement so it should be top if the line. hopefully!

 

it is simple enough, very straight forward. I did it myself in ~9hrs but i took my time. It is very uncomfortable. OPT for the NEW RAIN RAIL. My broke when i took my top out, worth the money for a new one.

 

Buddy and I did it last fall in about 5 hours, it's not hard.

That's the one we got, it's holding up great, zipperless rear window.

 

I do them for a living and they're not that difficult to do.
I've attached my current instructions so you can see what to do.

Also, the rain rail is a rare thing that needs replacing (I replace normally 1 in 50 top installs). If you're careful removing it and use duck tape on the back of the rail to cover any splits or small cracks then you'll be fine.
Done over 2000 tops now and never had a problem once with a repaired rain rail unless it was one that was marginal and the splits were more gaping holes

Oh, and don't bother with a Robbins rain rail if you need to replace it as the two halves are bonded in the wrong place and it splits in two when you tighten things back up again. Definitely the voice of experience talking here...

 

Took 8 hours with the help of an experienced miata top guy helping me. Wasn't that hard, just takes a lot of work.. Doing it in November in a garage thats 40 degrees doesn't help stretch the top onto the frame either.

Wasn't really that hard, just do it when its pretty warm and I don't think you'll have problems.

Oh, Get a URETHANE rain rail... thats 135$ VERY well spent!!

Edit: I just saw what had me confused; it's the crossbar which shows the sky on the top half and the mountains as a background in the lower half.
