See those 2 squares of carpet insulation laying on the transmission tunnel? Where the hell do they go?

 

I believe those go in the trunk in the two area where your roll bar comes down.

 

Damn, I think you're right. Just tightened down all 58 bolts on the gas tank cover, too.

Don't think so, the carpet behind the seats has 2 sections of padding/insulation attached to the back of the carpet.

Seriously, if these do go in the tunnels, what's the point? They can't seriously be doing anything. I was thinking of stuffing the tunnels with something to cut down on noise, but do these squares actually serve a purpose?

I'm still trying to figure out what to use to stuff the tunnels. My latest idea is the expanding foam packing material that certain publishers use (Hachette Book Group, for one) to pack books. Grey plastic bags filled with expanding foam. You can compress the foam, stick it in the tunnel, and it slowly re-expands until it's tight against the walls. Weighs no more than a few ounces, and as long as the bags aren't torn, it shouldn't hold any moisture.

 

Good idea, but that foam is nasty vaporous **** when it being put into stuff. I dont know what it will do with any real heat. Might be some pretty horrible smelly stuff.

 

It's sealed in plastic though, so it shouldn't smell, right?
