Many, many newer cars will tell you when they want their oil changed based on analysis of driving habits. Our 2008 Suburban, 2003 CLK430, and even the GF's parents' 2000 Odyssey does it.

My BMW does that. I'm 13K and three months into my current oil change. It's 7 or 8 quarts of synthetic.

Wife's 03 cooper does it but just based on driving style. When you reset the counter it goes to 15000 miles then counts down depending on habits.

The problem with mine is that I do a lot of 1000 mile weeks at a couple hundred miles at a time, all interstate or highway. My counter is down to 9000 after 13,000 miles, lol.

i'll have to dig through the computer and find out what my number is. I'll probably request a "break-in" oil change at 1k but I am curious to see if my driving screws it up.

I seem to remember hearing horror stories about BMW engines running 15k+ OCIs and the analysis not supporting the recommended OCI. I would yank the oil at 5k and develop your own interval based on Blackstone data.

It seems that internet-lore suggest a lot of people have sludge problems with BMW factory OCIs.

Mine doesn't change until it drops a full 1,000. Maybe when it's down to the last 1,000 it will drop by hundreds like my GPS. It won't show tenths until I'm under 10 miles to go.

I use OEM filters that I bought from Finish Line Performance. I think I picked up a dozen a few years so I am still going through them.
