Ew on the design of that 2-1 merge.

Should merge like this...

Braineack 06-30-2008 03:24 PM

 no doubt they can weld, no doubt Dave it correct.

miatamoxie 06-30-2008 03:40 PM

Dayum! I only wish I could weld like that. All I can promise is that my welds will hold...still working on aesthetics. Then again, I don't have a TIG.

Braineack 06-30-2008 03:43 PM

great job pushing the "flower" button, btdubz. :giggle:

Atlanta93LE 06-30-2008 03:56 PM

I'd love to see the car where that piece will actually fit in ;) It'd stick out like a sore thumb on any of the Miatas I've seen.

Duckie_uk 06-30-2008 04:00 PM

Jeezus titty fucking christ! Like a row of coins. Me tink hey practice welly hard.

kotomile 06-30-2008 04:00 PM

Welds look fantastic (are they hand welded??) but Splittime's got a point too.. why not make the 2-1 merge as smooth as the cyl 2-3 merge?

elesjuan 06-30-2008 04:43 PM

I call machine welded!!

Oooh.. And have fun installing that thing with a motor IN the car.

I like how they included a built-in 3 year lifespan flexi joint so that they can have your money again and again

jim-NA 06-30-2008 05:18 PM

Looks almost too good to use.......

Cylinder head, Transmission bell housing, steering shaft, body, A-Arms. All of those are big time in the way if you're attempting a long tube install with the motor in the car.

I broke the shit out of my finger installing the header in that picture.

Braineack 06-30-2008 06:14 PM

jack the car up high enough and there's no issue.....my J/R was a breeze. Likewise, i usually install my turbo, and DP as one unit.

elesjuan 06-30-2008 06:21 PM

Did you install it from the bottom?!?

Braineack 06-30-2008 06:53 PM

no. but the DP is easier doing it like that.

18psi 06-30-2008 06:59 PM

pretty good quality header....one thing i dont get though: quality peice, im sure it costs a crapload, and still gains what like 2-3hp? i guess i just dont see the fun in keeping the miata n/a.

Yeah i installed my header in like literally 15 minutes.. its not that bad..

Now go try installing headers on a lt1 f-body, now thats a PITA

Put the header on a worked over motor, and the gains are much more impressive. N/A power is fun--if you can afford it.

or just replace the flex joint when it's time. so if the options are potentially replace a cracked manifold every race season or replace a flex section every few years, not too many people would prefer the former.

incidentally, the entire flex section is stainless, not just the caps.

y8s 07-01-2008 01:08 AM

installing the RB 4-1 on my 01 was cake even with everything in the engine bay. just had to take out the shock brace and lower cross brace.

no argument there, except for the bold part: most of the time, to make them really fun, you have to dump LOADS of cash into them and most CANT afford it.

Or just weld in some solid pipe and fuck the flexi. I have no end of trouble with those damn things, dont get me wrong I use them and in some cases they are very useful but they are always a weak link for me. Maybe its just me :dunno:

Word.

Dark Wanderer 07-01-2008 11:51 AM

It's not necessary machine welded. A good welder with 10-15 years of exp can weld like that easy with a pulsed welder.

http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/8...87Large.th.jpghttp://img153.imageshack.us/img153/1...86Large.th.jpghttp://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9...96Large.th.jpg
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5...92Large.th.jpghttp://img153.imageshack.us/img153/6...90Large.th.jpghttp://img153.imageshack.us/img153/1...88Large.th.jpghttp://img153.imageshack.us/img153/4...89Large.th.jpg

If I can weld this with only a year of practice and an on/off button (no pedal to moderate the heat) after 10 years I should be able to do something like the headers.

Yes, but at what price, after the JDM tax is removed.

Duckie_uk 07-01-2008 05:14 PM

Dark Wanderer, The current is strong in you! I find your lack of fail disturbing :P

Duckie_uk 07-01-2008 05:16 PM

Wtf is that BTW? Part of a fuck off homebrew/distillery plant?

EH? I don't understand what your trying to say?

For the part, I dunno, it goes in a sterilizer for an hospital, that's all I know.

Duckie_uk 07-02-2008 05:27 AM

Sorry, my poor sense of humor, "the force is strong in this one" only with current because we're talking about welding. And the lack of fail being disturbing was supposed to be a compliment.

Fuck I really need to stop drinking. I was better off with drugs than drink

18psi 07-02-2008 03:59 PM

:bowrofl:
do drugs man, its way better
