Thinking about dedicated track/autox wheels n tires
 

But I am torn between a few options: I really want to get a set of those 13x8 Rota RB's and put Kuhmo 710s on em, but I have a set of stock Daisies and could easily put the same tires on those (albeit smaller), but they would be less wide. I want Maximum grip for my car, but do not know how much of a difference the wider tire would make.

I've got 13x7 panasports..... I personally think they are a great addition to autoxing here.... anyway.... Although, they do change how the car feels....

1) turn in is slower... but overall grip through the corner is actually better....
2) gearing change... with the smaller overall diametre of the tire, the gearing does shift around slightly....

Speaking of which, I need a new set of 710's this year.....

Don't forget to factor in what type of driving you do. And what tire options you'll have. Brake size is an issue too.

Will your wheels clear the brakes you use, or might use later.
Will the wheels have a selection of tires, in case you desire to use another brand... or feel the gearing is wrong with your current tire size.

I'm running 14in for daily and track, I'm finding that tire choice isn't ideal. Later I may very well move to 15s for better tire options in brand/compound and size (gearing).

I'd ideally run a 13x8 for an autox tire. It seems like that would be best, but the local turbo NB around here that is shared by a couple of pros (that regularly beats me by huge margins) is running 15x7 Kosei K1s.

I'm running 14x6 and it sucks.

i guess its down to what you want.

I run factory 99 sport 15x6 wheels because that is what my class says I have to run. Factory size, width, and offset for C-stock

track 15s, autox 13s = 14s dual purpose :dunno:

Somthing to keep in mind as well ... going from a 195/50/15 (or 185/60/14) to a 215/50/13 is pretty close to 3/4" drop in ride height. This could mess with clearance on exhaust and I/C piping.

How big is the venue that you run at? Typically how fast are the courses? Running out of gear in 2nd a lot?

My biggest concern with the 13's is running out of 2nd and having to shift a lot. We are running all of our events on a smaller tighter lot this year, so it might be ok.

If you want to do anything on the road course get a 15" wheel, the 13" will be way too short. Not to mention that you'd eat up a set of 710's in a hurry.

why would they wear out so much faster just because its smaller diameter?

Sorry, I meant 710s in general. They won't stand up to the prolonged heat.

If you want something that will work ok for both autox and track days you are best to go with something like an ra-1 or victoracer in 15".

I don't think there will be a tire that do well in both environments.

U know, theres a guy (charles) who I see at almost every autocross and he has the 6ul with slicks mounted, along with a BEGI FM2, Revalved bilstiens, and I dunno what springs he runs. He gets about 10 seconds on me consistantly. Pretty good driver also. Better driver + better car = 10 seconds on a 1 minute course lol. When we worked the cones together I told him that I was going to beat him by the end of the season (jokingly). However I am gauging my performance on his times since he is more consistant than me being a better driver and hope to get within five seconds of his times by the end of the season on 205 azenis. I know the car is capable with a few suspension tweaks, the RX7 differential (project started today), megasquirt, and a whole lot of drivers instinct tweaks.
