Any towing that involves tying the steering wheel is towing that i want nothing to do with. Sounds dangerous and prone to fail.

towing a car on a dolly is not being around the towing perfesion. i have been around real towing my whole life, tying off a steering wheel is a common and encouraged pratice. you can break a steering lock, but if the wheel is tied off with the seat belt, the wheel is not going to move.

Been a while since I got to flex the banstick.

Well, I've arrived. Pretty uneventful all in all right up to the point where I got here. Holy **** are some of these streets narrow- and lined with rock walls at that. No damage apart from my nerves... And Ben, why the hell didn't you speak up earlier? ****, I'd have dropped by in a heartbeat.

And now that I'm here, I'm really quite mortified. The house, which was described to me as "occupied by three other law students" is an absolute nightmare. Picture "Animal House" only without the high-class atmosphere. Roaches everywhere, the bedroom (in the basement) is bare concrete and right next to a super-noisy 1960s vintage AC unit, the folks are absolute slobs- we're talking serious filth- bottles, cans, dishes everywhere (I found dirty dishes in the basement bathroom!), the electrical wiring is frightful- all two prong outlets, a bunch of switches that make a popping sound when you turn them on... Seriously, this place would be a pigsty in Tijuana. To quote Egon, "This building should be condemned."

So... I'm now in a crash program to find a new place to live before classes start. It's been a terribly inauspicious beginning thus far. I am really pissed that I sold my motorcycle before moving out here- though I wouldn't need it since this place is just across the street from campus, and I know I won't find anything as close now. Probably end up with a ******* scooter, or maybe a 250 Nighthawk...

I don't lock the steering wheel when I tow on the dolly.

Assuming that my only towing experience is a poor one. I regularly tow trailers from 5ft to 30ft, enclosed, open trailers, boats, etc.

In any event, I checked the owners manual on my dolly to see if I was just a moron. Here's what I found.

• Never attempt to back up a loaded tow dolly. This can overstress the tow dolly bending the tongue and or carrying pan. Towed vehicle damage may also occur from oversteering.
• Always load the vehicle-in-tow facing forward. (Making sure steering wheel is immobilized by locking ignition switch or tying off steering wheel to seat frame or suitable point.) Towing a rearward facing vehicle may cause swaying with the towed combination.
So we're both wrong, per the manufacturer.

and i am not strickly talking about dollys and trailers. i am talking about towing with a tow truck. and the dolly company has to put that warning there, because people refuse to take aditional steps to properly tow it.
