in this thread you may discuss cutting my sparco sprint for the nutstrap

I have 2 sparco sprint seats with no holes for the nutstrap, and I need to make them. I need to keep my nuts snug.

edit: I have 6-point simpson harnesses, but I think it should just hook it up 5-point style.

Braineack 11-21-2008 10:04 AM

just send me the seats.

I say sell them and buy the newer style sprints that have the holes. Seriously, sell them to Scott.

hustler 11-21-2008 10:55 AM

I'm not spending any more cash on this shit.

Did some of you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? Rest assured that you aren't going to have a bed if you keep typing to me in this tone when I burn your motherfucking house down.

Easy there Tolfield....who thought that one up for ya?
I can help you w/ that when you get here on Sunday....and we can weld your brackets for the anchors in the floor as well. ;)

I've gotta do the same thing. Only problem is in my area (the flaming ghey PNW!) the various HPDE clubs are pretty ---- about safety. Most have rules against 4 pt harnesses but also have rules against 5 or 6 points in seats that weren't made for them. "factory holes" sort of rule. I need to find some plastic part that looks legit for the crotch straps to go through.

Putting a hole in looks pretty straight forward. Sit in the seat. See where it should go. Cut a slot with a razor. Maybe hot glue the edges so they don't fray or run. I just need to find something to line it with that looks legit.

heh heh... I said ----...

By the way. I fabbed up some brackets off of an old Miata seat to my Sparco's - slides don't work but it sits low and bolt rights in. With anchors bolted in, a $25 set of quick releases on the ends of the harness lets me remove my factory seat, bolt in the sparco and hook up the 5 pt. harness in about 10 minutes. Another 10 minutes and the car is back to stock. Pretty slick for a DD car that sees track duty too.

What about the little ring inserts that go in the side covers to finish off the opening for the seat belt retractors? They would be the right size. You really don't need them on a stock car. Take them off and move them down.

Pictures of said setup? I have a momo start just chillin.

wagz used a drywall saw...lol. I just use 1.5" wide metal straps, bent to shape, bolted to the stock holes. You probably won't get the seat any lower. Even with Wagz flat bottom fiberglass seat I couldn't crouch down low enough to get my helmet off the hardtop. The factory seat puts me way too high even for daily driving...and I can't get my massive quads under the steeringwheel. I guess there's a reason you premature ejaculators never go to the gym.

Dremel and rotary cut-off wheel works great.
The finishing of the hole can be done with edge molding found at most hardware stores. I prefer the rubber stuff that has metal in it and can be pinched to fit. Same type of stuff that our doors have at the pinch welds by the door catch.

I wouldn't cut a hole in a race seat for any reason. Sell them and snag a set of Sprint 5s or Starts.
