tie rods

I know this is probably an annoying question, but I have run into this very same problem:

Ok so I have read the FM guide a billion times and know it word for word. My problem is that they assume that to rack has already had the tie rods removed. I am lookin at the tie rods right now and just cant see how they are supposed to be removed. Could someone please help me out? Some pictures would be great :)

Apparently I'm not as smart I can't figure the bastards out.
too late just to loop the lines...
if any one could help tonight I would be grateful, I'm hoping to drop the motor in tomorrow morning

You should post what you figured out so that when somebody searches with the same problem, they can reference your solution instead of having to start a new thread asking the same question.

Sounds like a good idea.

Use a screw driver and a hammer to make the washer on the inner tie rod look like this:
Attachment 213222

once you have that done you should be able unscrew the tie rod
I used a cresent wrench on both sides

The driver side is a bit tricky, I wrapped a paper towell around the slotted part of the rack to keep it from spinning while I undid the tie rod.

yup, that stupid folded over the tie rod lock washer sucks ass to pry apart if you don't have your engine out of the car. Its a lot easier to take the rack out, put it on a vise and hammer away at that little bastard. I only had to remove the drivers side to do the depowering of the rack the FM way.
