Time for a new roll bar
#34
I'm not sure I'll have enough money to start a new hobby, though I do plan on getting a roll bar and maybe seats and harnesses by the end of the summer. I could at least come see you run, maybe take some video so everyone here can make fun of you, too.
Oh, and I bet I could replicate the flipside bar, is PVC pipe against the rules?
Where are you located, NoCrash?

Sam, I live in South Holland IL. (near the Indiana-Illinois border) and I travel about 98 miles to get to GLD. Last year was my first time drag racing on a real drag strip. I only made it to 4 IW events and made it to the semi-final the last 2 events. It's not that exspensive at $45 per event (once a month). Just think of it, 3 turbo Miatas against all other imports (stock or modified). Mike hope to pass inspection with my Harddog Sport. I don't think we will have any problems and we only have to pass once. Sam, check out to videos!

Sam - You only need a roll bar in a convertible if you are running 13.5 or faster, which you should be capable of, but assume your first time out you wont be running that fast, so you could still race. My first time out I ran a 14 flat at the end of the night, learning to launch at the track is nothing like on the street, takes quite a few runs to get your routine down. Those are the NHRA regs though, if you came to any open racing night I doubt they would say anything since all other non convertible cars have to run a 11.9 to require a bar. BUT the first two weeks that the track is open in april is "free racing", basically you just pay the $12 or $15 admission fee and race for free instead of paying a $35 drivers entry fee. Assuming that the Miata is running, I should be there a lot the first two weeks. It would be a good time to try it out and see how you like it.
Daryl - Honestly I doubt that our sport bars will be an issue, but I do eventually want to swap mine out for a Hard Core just to play it safe. It seems like Ray is cool with tech but some of those other guys annoy the **** out of me and it wouldn't surprise me if they checked.
But seriously, I need to see more Miatas at the track. Its so lonely haha
