Is there a solid oil pump on the market that is great for replacing the transmission fluid? I hate working with the mickey mouse bullshit ones at autozone, and the air compressor method is fun but dangerous.

On the 6 speed I just fill from the turret.

 

Can't do that with a 5 speed.

 

For a 5 speed I just get a piece of hose and run it from the engine bay to the fill hole then with a funnel pour in the fluid.

I guess if you don't have steady hands. I've only dripped a few drops, and I have a pan under the fill. But if you are looking for pump options I've never used one, which I guess is the point of this thread. So I'll leave you be

 

A gear oil pump for a power boat's lower unit / out drive could work and will likely be cheaper, IIRC mine was< $50 for a Mercury marine branded one.

I have one that I use on my boat but I have a 6sp in the car so I've never needed to try it.

 

I have used the funnel hose method to fill my trans, if the end of your funnel fits in the hose it's not messy at all.

 

I used this exact pump:

$6 and can be done from the bottom of the car.

 

I've used a hose attached to the extended snout of the Oil bottle (QS), turned the bottle upside-down and pump the bottle by hand. Sure there is some oil left but you only need 1.9 bottles anyway.

I have a funnel-hose setup somewhere too, just keep track how much oil you have added... (and don't forget to replace the drain plug )

85W-140 is a bit boring to pour though, pumping the bottle is faster.

 

pop this amsoil pump into your bottle, pump away with the hose that is included.

has different sticks for the quart or gallon bottles.

Ive used it for weights up to sae250 and it pumps great.

But now that i know the amsoil one exists, i'll probably try that. Because Amsoil dealer.

 

How much fluid does this transfer per pump? I've used a few of the generic parts stores ones, and I'd guess they transfer between 1 and 1.1 teaspoons of oil per pump. So ~200 pumps later, you've moved around a quart of oil into the transmission. :-/
Maybe/hopefully the Amsoil one is better. If so I'll have to pick one of those up.

 

The HF one linked above will move a quart in about... 45 seconds.

No, i think you just have no stamina. I'm getting pretty tired of the "I swear this has never happened before!" excuses.

 

took me about 2 minutes to do engine oil when i tried it

no idea how much per pump but i wouldnt say that it would be 200 pumps. when i did the 250wt oil it may have been though. that stuff is like pumping grease.

 

I have the Amsoil pumps in stock, as well as MTG for the tranny (SVG for the diff and Dominator for the motor too).

 

I use air compressor method (brake line piece in cap to the bottom of bottle and additional hole for air)

Mess free and as long as you don't go full retard on the air hose very safe and easy. Been doing it for years without incident.

 

I used a 5 foot section of 3/8" hose, duct taped a funnel to it and slowly poured fluid in with the funnel zip-tied to the hood. The hose ran along the exhaust into the fill hole. Any extra fluid will run down the transmission and drip off after filling. Just put a fluid pan down there; it's very predictable where it will drip (straight down from filler hole if the car is on a level surface).

I had my fluid filled for 5 bucks (plus fluid) and 10 minutes. Most of that was getting the RTV off my filler hole plug.
