Corkey bell said the 5-speed is good for 250hp. May just be lucky, but I've wheel hoped the stock 1.6L, no boom. I've driven the car WOT in all gears.

Keep in mind though, I don't dump the clutch at high rpms. You wouldn't move from your spot if you did.

And I don't flat shift. I always let out of the gas between gears. Yea, I may loose a little time. But not much and the drivetrain will last alot longer with some empathy.

I've driven my car for a few months now and no problems out of the tranny.

I would cross that road when you come to it. If you don't take off with 3000 K drops, and let out of the gas betweem gears, You should be fine.

That saying I do have spare everything.

We have basically turned these cars into race cars. They last along time. But you are guarrentied nothing.

These cars are stronger than you think. Any time you hot rod anything. even a new car, it can blow something. That is racing.

I wouldn't think of changing the 5-speed until it blew, or you just decied you want a cool 6-speed.

300hp is something different, but not for 200-250hp. Just my opinion.

its going to be interesting to see if I make it home after 2-hours of track time at 250whp. lol

Its not spinning the tires that does the damage...its the first time the tires hook that all hell breaks loose.

It's not that simple. There are guys out there who run street discs and baby the shifts, and they make it last at 300whp. I never flatshifted my car, but I do shift hard, and I broke one on a pucked disc at 220. A friend of mine broke one on a pucked disc at like 10psi, so mabye 190-200whp. It's not just a "well it will do 250 but not 251" thing.

You have yet to post the dyno graph for your car.....

and the reason I said what I said is: have you seen a 1000+whp supra on the street with regular tires? I have, and the **** had to fight to keep the car driving straight even past 100mph...thats just useless/insane/stupid power

Oh-yea, I have the street disk too.

A numb nuts can get out there with a n/a car and tear it up.

A person has to develope driving skills for every different car they get into. And use good judgement. If you plan on crazy raming gears and flat shifts, you can tear up anything. My dad got me a like new 5.0 with 73,000 miles when I was in college. I flat shifted and blew that tranny up in 15,000 miles.

That tranny would of never blew under my dad. Or me now....... Whatever, if I had that back, I would pop wheelies and flat shift again. I loved that car. And i know I need a race tranny, cause I would show it no mercy. But in the case of me in my miata, I drag it out at the track, but I show some mercy on take offs and shifts.

And it seems to be fine.

My point is, you can hotrod it almost to the max, and have fun, if you do it correctly..

I'm not saying it is guarenteed to last, I'm just saying if you drive it properly, it isn't a "I'm scared to punch it" or drive it to the grocery store, or even the track type of thing.

And If it blows, it is cheap to replace. or even just to pick up a extra to ward the Joo joo off.LOL

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Comparison
I can jump into a piece of junk and drive it forever, hotrodding it and having fun.
My 17yr/old brother's best friend can jump in a good car, and screw it up in a day.

I would love to have a 6-speed though..........I should trade my 1.8L for one. LOL

I had the trans out 11 times in 10-years in my jetta. I had constant problems, and everyone gave me **** about abusing transmissions. I've had the miata for 3 years and done over 20-track days in it...and never screwed up a trans.

So do I. So does TheSnowboarder. We've both blown 5-speeds. I was at 219whp, he was at 190-200whp.
